You all are acting like Dach has been awful 100% of his time here. With young Hutson, Guhle, Xhekaj, Harris, Engstrom, Mailloux and more in the pipeline, moving Romanov made sense.

Jury's still out and the season is still young.
, so is Dach. I just hope it does not end up like Galchenyuk, who was a PPG player for a 50-60 game stretch before Kopitar injured him. From that point on, Alex neeever recovered.
Yeah it made sense at the time. Doesn’t mean it was for the right player. Fair gamble to make, I’m not mad at Hughes here. But it’s a trade he’s lost so far, I don’t think there’s any denying that.

Gotta be Michkov.

If Reinbacher was developing nicely and trending up, I could accept passing on MM at the draft. But that's not the case.

Dach I did not like the trade at the time and I am proven right. There is always a reason why a team is giving up on a top 3 pick. Hughes got played there. No harm in rolling the dice with Kirby but the price we paid was too steep (13th).

If its a fair gamble, then it was for the right player. Until the first game of this year, the trade was on track to be a great trade for us. We had a our young top 6 player for surplus inventory. I can't call it a L yet nor do I think it would be fair to do so at this point in time. Let's reassess at the end of the year and I'll be more than happy to call a spade a spade. But I don't know why I'm that convinced that Dach will turn it around.

I've sent in the paperwork to open up a fried crow restaurant already. I intend to serve a lot of 20 piece buckets. Don't tell my wife about it YET. I'm betting my username on this let's make it fun.

If you win and Dach is still ass/traded by the end of the year, you pick my new name

If he turns it around though ...

Jury is still out but it's Reinbacher. Logic made sense at time but only if Hugo felt Rein would bring a huge impact to the Habs. Otherwise idk how you pass on michkov. Rein has to be a stud.

I can live with the rest. Barron sucks. Newhook was massive overpay and he sucks. It is what it is. Dach not looking good either but we'll see.

Michkov's on pace for a point per game rookie season, that alone makes the Reinbacher acquisition the most disappointing for me regardless of injury.

I just have a feeling he's going to pan out to be a very vanilla 2nd pair defensive defenseman. The kind that teams trade a late 1st for at the trade deadline regularly. Meanwhile Michkov is looking nearly guaranteed to be a 100 point winger in his prime, the kind of player you have to draft because no team would be stupid enough to trade him away.

To answer OP

1. Newhook is the wrong profile of player for a rebuilding team to spend draft assets to acquire. Unless they thought he had Zuccarello-like upside, (and then, why would COL not see it?) it doesn’t make sense. If they thought he had massive untapped upside, then the guy/scout who saw that was plainly wrong. I’m afraid of the Hughes-agency connection.

2. Dach ran himself out of CHI after his wrist injury and 20ish point season. Perhaps Hughes didn’t do his homework on Dach’s character and effort — maybe there’s some less than good stuff there if they bothered to look. Hughes ignored the downsides and bet on the pre-draft and physical profile.

NB. Slafkovsky, despite having the size speed and tools, he seems like a limited player (toolbox).

I felt like that could’ve been mitigated by development time spent elsewhere. I was wrong, it couldn’t have been mitigated, so the Habs were right to not bother. He needs intensive coaching and can’t be left to his own devices. He needs pep talks and constant prodding. The idea is to mold him into what he could be…

Not my idea of a 1OA but it was a bad draft cohort. Due to his limitations, I don’t think he is tracking to be 1OA in a redraft but I can appreciate the opportunity and upside they thought they had.

No, many posters were against some moves, like Newhook, Dach and passing over Michkov. I was one of them.

I also wanted Wright, but I'm not the GM, so I can be wrong with no consequences.
Alot of people defended Bergevin after his extension and not many people called him out , until Price injuries showed how bad the franchise was managed.

Will be the same with Hughes unless things turn out different. You have blind defenders who will attack other fans for their scepticism rather than accept a plurality of opinions.

Hiring totally inexperienced coaching staff (other than Letowski) seems like the biggest issues. You make trades and you cannot win them all, but hiring the right people is the key part.

Newhook and Reinbacher are the only on-ice headscratchers for me, Newhook because I thought we paid too much, was, and still am hopeful he'll turn it around, but it's like he doesn't know what he's supposed to be, still think he should center a line, he ain't a winger.

Reinbacher because I thought he was a reach, he's fine when he plays though, but he's already damaged goods, and the forwards available were way more appealing to me.

And not hiring an experienced coach for St-Louis to work with, he's drowning with expectations, wouldn't surprise me if he resigned at some point cause of that.

Of course, I'm ready to eat crows if I'm wrong, I hope everybody here is, too.

I wanted Michkov too and was pissed when they grabbed DR but I moved on and decided to support the pick. Hell we may regret the Slaf pick. Drafting a teenager and trying to determine what they will become is a tough job.

Reinbacher was a bit of a reach due to the RD factor but book is not written yet. I wanted Michkov but there is no way I'm going to be gullible and think this debate is over yet. Stay humble for a few more years because Reinbacher seems like the type that will take a while. Might be a H Lindholm type in the end and who knows how complete of a winger Michkov will be. At the end of the day, playoff performances matter the most.

Hated letting go Romanov but really liked Dach's potential. I was neutral on this trade and still am today. Dach has more to give but time is running out for him to prove to us he is a 2C.

Wasn't high on the Newhook trade. But what was it? Late 1st and early 2nd? Could have hit with those picks or miss. That's how that works. However, Newhook is not the type of forward we need to mix in with our skill. We need big boys that can skate and actually win puck battels in the trenches.

Most disappointing? I would have to say Dach at the moment.

Yeah it starts all cute and everything is perfect.
"MSL will fix our rookies and put them on the good way"
"Dach did a stretch of good games in a dead season, he's for sure a top 6 center"
"I trust the new management seeking BPA at draft , misses twice in 3 years"

It's the same song all over again. Let's wait , wait , wait until it's 2 late.
Wait to trade veteran
Wait to make a significant move
Wait to make adjustments.

It's a rebuild, we've been mediocre so long that the second we see a player body check and make 2 great passes in a game we go crazy.
This team is scared to make a big splash.

That's why people are paid millions to do it, therefore have to answer for their mistakes, unlike us.

I vote Dach. Next is Newhook followed by Barron. In one year Rienbacker and Slaf could be #1 particularly if Wright and Mitchkov continue to play well.

- Too early to tell on all those players.

- I'm not liking what I'm seeing from Newhook and Barron, given what we gave up. Dach is coming back from a major injury.
