You’re lying and it’s very strange
Ok, let's see where I'm lying so I can see thart and eat crow for it.
It doesn't really matter what he wants, if you pick him he is yours.
And in hindsight it seems pretty clear that staying in russia wasn't an option.
At the time that wasn't known and I would imagine that wasn't really an issue, however if he doesn't want to play here and the Habs draft him, you have yourself a Lindros situation.
While that worked out wonderfully for Colorado, it could be an issue where you're potentially strung along for those 3 years and maybe he signs one more and while he's still playing well over in Russia, his value isn't as high as it was on draft day given that he doesn't want to play for your organization and asking out.
So, now you're trading Michkov for pennies on the dollar in all likelihood.
Or maybe, if he didn't want to play in Montreal he comes around.
Both hypothetical, but the negative possibility is there and it needs to be factored into a pick, assuming the player you're considering has given, or said he has no intention/doesn't want to be drafted by your team.
Maybe he becomes a free agent and the Habs sign him in the future. Who knows.
