No, I'll put it in terms you can actually understand (which you should sensibly deduct yourself)...most of the acquisitions made are kids and they need time. Period. Not rocket science. You'll only know in a couple of years if they were bad moves. It's simple really.

Ahh, yes... How could I be so stupid.

Newhook just needs another year.... another year is all he needs.

That 10th NHL season is the sweet spot, where he will suddenly get bigger, stronger, grow a pair and change his perimeter playing style.

The thread is called "Most disappointing HUGHES acquisition". Stop posting in a heard mentality, you're better than that.

A few thoughts...

Most of the youngsters are stagnant or regressing except for X.

Drafting Michkov was a no brainer when it came to filling holes. You develop him for a few years and then trade him for a kings ransom. You get a really high end young center who is established or a good center and a top RHD.

If we keep Michkov then we have a front end that has Laine, Mich, CC and Demidov. All capable of a minimum of 30 goals or more like 40 goals. In what universe is that a bad thing? We haven't seen that kind of firepower since we had Shutt, Lafleur, Lemaire and Cournoyer...and that was when we OWNED the Promised Land. Too much money to keep them? Fine trade the weakest one for a kings ransom.

You forgot a small part of the title

(All Michkov draft talk here)

Yeah and? I never said not discussing MM, it's the nuts always bringing up when he even goes for a shit. "Oh, look at that shit, we missed out, it's beautiful and long". If he's all we're discussing, and is the only disappointment, might as well close the thread with that title! It's not the MM appreciation thread :laugh::laugh::laugh:

BT? People not even cluing in that this wasn't a HuGo pick? That is what I mean about this fanbase. Not dealing in reality and facts.
My point
Move on from michkov already

Just because the Habs had a Russian scouting director and a relative in a senior role of the team Michkov played for - does not prove their competence on the subject.
I only mentioned Bobrov and his father within the very narrow construct of their privileged access to intel at the time, which constituted an advantage.

I never claimed anything about their competency — you made that call.

Suffice to say that even the most competent of scouting people will get assessments wrong. Maybe other factors came into play that swayed their decision and were not made public — regardless, it still led to what now looks like a blunder.

The extra layer here is how they were unable to successfully convert on the advantage they had and how that might irk some fans. 💀

Yes,

You have Bobrov and his connections, and you fumble a player like Michkov...

Ouch.

I just hope it wasn't largely to listening to the SKA head coach.

Everyone talks about a player that we don't even have the f***. All arguments are NULL since it's all '' WHAT IF ''.

Let's add MSL to the discussion instead, I had enough. Love the man, hate the coach.

The year of the Hawks selected Bedard is the year, they traded us Dach who had a good season with us. Him along with our two goalies Monty and Allen playing lights all year out prevented us to get Bedard. Not to mention we would have an additional 1st round pick. There is no question that getting Dach was the worse move. Just no the way people think. lol

Slaf contract might be up there with the Reinbacher selection if he doesn’t pick it up

Honestly Slaf contract might be up there with the Reinbacher selection if he doesn’t pick it up
You would think he has a 10m contract with comments like this one lol. He’s on a potential 2nd consecutive season of 50 points at 19 and 20 years old. He has the contract of a top 6 player.

IF Michkov refused to play for the Habs..

That in itself is a failure on management.

Montreal is a notoriously Russian friendly city, and the year before the Michkov draft there were reports that we were taking a moral stance against drafting Russians due to the war in Ukraine. We took zero Russians that year, and traded Romanov at the draft. We are still the only NHL team without a Russian player in the NHL or AHL.

Now with all this being known, I think it is far more likely that Montreal was scared to take Michkov, or scared him away with hostility towards Russians, than it is that Michkov is a pure dick who hated Montreal and only wanted to play for Philly. One scenario makes it easier to sleep at night though!
