Selke level forwards have always been some of my favorite player types. And it's always been obvious that most cup winning teams have a forward who's won a Selke trophy in their career. Even IF Matthews becomes Kopitar "lite" defensively, I'd STILL want a legit Selke type of 3C, that's just how I prefer my team builds.

Rod Brind'Amour
Bobby Holik
Jere Lehtinen
John Madden
Igor Larionov
Michael Handzus
Leo Komarov (****)

Historically, most cup winning teams have a current or former Selke winner.

Selke winners are now the guy who gets the most points while having some PK duty.

Basically if leafs won the cup this year, Marner would get selke

All of Tavares, Matthews and Marner are good defensively. They are not playing shutdown roles but they could all make a case for a Selke later in their careers. The regular season performance is fine but they cant elevate it in the post season for the past few years and that is the reason why everyone is pissed.

What does Komarov have to do with the Selke??? Like really...... I loved Leo in his time with the Leafs. That being said, he is not overpaid and at the end of this career (decline...or regressing (seems to be a cool buzzword around here)), and is not going to win or even be in conversation to win a Selke

Leo Komarov has not even received a vote for a Selke at any point in his entire career, and there are like 75 players who do every year.

I would also like to point out that Komarov has been straight trash for the Islanders, both in the playoffs and regular season, throughout all of their playoff runs. Matt Martin has at least been respectable for what he brings (physicality).

Handzus has also never won a Selke and the most recent winner on that list retired almost 15 years ago.

It's almost like players on bad teams don't get Selke recognition so your sample is 90% centers who have gone deep in the playoffs recently. Bergeron maybe wins a single Selke in a quiet year if he spent his career in Buffalo. Just look at O'Rielly on a bad team vs a good team, completely different reputation.

Marner was getting a bit of Selke hype when he was carrying the Leafs during the regular season but that was a bit of a stretch.

Our Selke award winner Gilmour also added 127 points and no Cup

Rod Brind'Amour
Bobby Holik-No Selke
Jere Lehtinen
John Madden
Igor Larionov-No Selke
Michael Handzus-No Selke
Leo Komarov - No Selke

Who would they check on the Habs? The Selke winner the Leafs need is Brind'Amour.

Öh. No he has not. Komarov plays quite well at this point.
He is closing to end of his career but he still plays really smart there.

You have not seen him play or you dont understand hockey in deeper levels.

To be fair all Danault needs is a decent showing in the finals to start getting 3rd place Selke nominations without changing anything about his game.

Selke winners recently have at least a + offensive game.
Danault may as well be carrying a paddle out there. He just is a garbage goal scorer. 5 goals in 66 games this season.

Selke is once you get some votes a couple years they just keep voting you even when your defensive game falls apart.

Like Gold Gloves in baseball.

I have seen Leo play many times, as I said he was my favourite Leaf. That being said..... he is not a Selke candidate. Yes, he is a smart player. Not taking anything away from him.

And come on now with the last comment...... I don't understand hockey because I don't think Leo is Selke calibre? I guess there are a lot of other who don't understand either as he got ZERO votes for the trophy, unless he legally changed his name.
