Most assists with no goals in a season

Just curious if anyone knows the record? The Rangers have two guys in Ryan McDonagh and Brady Skjei with crazy 0 goals and 13 and 11 (I think) assists respectively. I'm assuming the answer to this would be a good puck moving D-man without a great shot.

Typed this into google and it spat this list out at me. Don't know how accurate it is though so take it for what it's worth. I did type the some of players into hockey Db so the stats I think are accurate. Though James Thomson is listed as Jim Thomson.

James Thomson of the Toronto Maple Leafs had 0 goals and 29 assists in 1947-48....in 1951-52 he recorded 0 goals and 25 assists....in 1952-53, he recorded 0 goals and 22 assists

Barry Wilkins of Pittsburgh had 0 goals and 27 assists in 1975-76
Craig Ludwig of Montreal had 0 goals and 25 assists in 1981-82
Keith Magnuson of Chicago had o goals and 24 assists in 1969-70
Brad McCrimmon of Philadelphia had 0 goals and 24 assists in 1983-84
Anders Eriksson of Columbus had 0 goals and 23 assists in 2006-07
Lee Fogolin of Buffalo had 0 goals and 23 assists in 1977-78

All the above are defensemen.

Daniel Bourbonnais of the 1983-84 Hartford Whalers had a 0 goal 16 assist season for the most points in a season without a goal by a forward

This is a good trivia question.

There have been 19 times when a player recorded at least 20 assists with no goal. The leader (if you want to call him that), is Jimmy Thomson, with three of those years. In consecutive seasons he had zero goals & 25 assists, then zero goals & 22 assists. He holds the all-time record with zero goals & 29 assists.

Frantisek Kaberle was the last to join the 0 & 20 club, with 22 assists in 2008.

Dan Bourbonnais holds the single season record for a forward - zero goals & 16 assists.

(For what it's worth, Grant had more points than 62 skaters who played at least as many NHL games as him that year)

Grant played the same number of games as center Pat Conacher, and outscored him by 4 points.

Bit embarrassing for Conacher, maybe...

Jay Bouwmeester was doing even better than Numminen that same season, and started 0-32-32 through 65 games before scoring 5 goals in his last 17. The 'race' between the two for the record got some mild publicity at the time.

With two games left to play, Riley Sheahan has a chance to break the record for biggest ice time for a forward in a season without scoring a goal.

He's currently played 1087 minutes. Craig Adams is the current record holder with 910 minutes.

He is also on pace to have the most shots fired by a forward in a season without scoring, with 106 shots currently, over Craig Adams' 84.

Joe Thornton this year is pretty impressive. 7g 43a, but his first non empty net goal was Feb 9th. Only has 81 shots in 79 games too.

Obviously he is a pass first guy, but its amazing the lack of scoring opportunities he has or makes for himself, especially for being such a good player and on a pretty high scoring team.
