It a stark reminder that, despite their storied history, Montreal's current roster is a ways away from contention.

Panthers couldn't care less about regular season games against Montreal. And they stopped playing after the 4 nations so they would be ready for playoffs. They still managed to play .500 hockey while playing at 50% lol. Once playoffs started, they turned the switch on. Only very few games can do that, maybe your team will get there one day.
Imagine taking a joke this seriously. That's really stupid. Anaheim shouldn't raise a banner because they went 3-1 against the Oilers.
Embarassing that you would suggest that unlike Habs fans who have suggested no such thing.
Ngl it sounds like you carePanthers couldn't care less about regular season games against Montreal. And they stopped playing after the 4 nations so they would be ready for playoffs. They were quite clearly the worst team to make the playoffs. Only team that lost more games that they won that made it and one of two teams that made it with a negative goal differential. But they werent supposed to make it and I think they had the youngest team. They have a very long way to go but the future is bright. Not as bright as most habs fans like to shove down our throats but they have pieces in the right places. This is something I find cool every year, the teams on both sides of the bracket that are the biggest losers in the playoffs. Montreal is in the East and the Blues are poised to be the team from the west to dawn this mark if Edmonton win but the Blues went seven games in the first round matchup, whereas the Canadiens won once. It a stark reminder that, despite their storied history, Montreal's current roster is a ways away from contention.
Too many Stanley Cup banners in the way sorryHang a banner.
Their collapse kinda occured when they still had Hughes. The Devils comp is kind of a red herring though. They built a sizable lead with Hughes and then held on for dear life once he went down. Not really a testament to the weakness of the Metro since they certainly miss the playoffs if they played the whole season in their final form.
You can hang a banner for that too.Too many Stanley Cup banners in the way sorry
At the time of his injury they were tied with Carolina for 2nd in the metro and were +34Their collapse kinda occured when they still had Hughes.
Yeah I’m sureThere were a handful of teams that would have been more competitive in the playoffs than Montreal, who so didn't belong

I learned of this concept from tennis, and they call it the "reverse slam" (a tongue in cheek "opposite" to the Grand Slam of winning all four majors).
It's when you lose in the first round, your opponent loses in the second round, who then loses in the third round, etc. all the way up to whoever loses in the final. Tennis tournaments have more rounds (usually anyway) than four, so it's a very dubious "honor." There's always exactly one person who "accomplishes" this dubious honor.
If Florida loses in the SCF, then then Montreal will have achieved the reverse slam of the NHL playoffs.
