There's a reason WSH is continually trying to move Brouwer. He's very inconsistent..... Kind of Rene Bourque with less offensive skills.

I'd rather just keep Gorges and have a really strong top-4 or get a better return for one of our team leaders.

I really doubt that the Pens will let Orpik go.
I doubt even more that Washington would accept that kind of trade.
I also feel like it's way too much for Brian Boyle who will be playing on the 4th line...

Brian Boyle is an unbelievable penalty killer and a big body who is good on draws. He might not be worth that money, but I'd be shocked if he got under 2 (see Gaustad). You pay for character players like Boyle (see Prusty), who Boyle played with in NY.

Also for anyone who is wondering about Orpik, I posted an inquiry about him on the Pittsburgh board 2 weeks ago, Penguin fans overwhelmingly see Brooks being let go. They see Simon Despres stepping up to take his role.

brouwer is a solid 2way 3RW, but id rather have kulemin or hansen over him. he really shouldnt play in your top 6 (sorta like bourque, hes an upgrade over him tho)
but hes ok as long as he plays on your 3rd line :P. he can give you offense + play a shutdown role

Boyle would be nice if he could be had for less than $2MM but if we are offering big money to a Ranger UFA I'd rather target Callahan to replace Gionta or better yet take a run at some young RWs like Chiasson or Etem in trades

Ultimately we have to stop trying to build a team with 3 x 2nd lines and stock up for a 1a-1b-3-4

Same with D where we have a 1st and 2 x 3rd pairings

We overpay for mediocre depth which limits abiliity to bring in higher end players

MB is always referencing Chicago as the way to build a team, well they do that perfectly, our 3rd line costs more than their 3/4 and bottom D combined for nearly zero production

I'd be very surprised if Bourque were part of the team next year. The guy is incorrigible and too high maintenance for what he brings. This is one passenger the team can do without.

the way our team should look like next year:

forwards:

galchenyuk - plekanec - gallagher

pacioretty - eller - xxxxxxx (simmonds would be a decent fit here, we wouldnt need to give up anyone from our core for him)

prust - bournival - xxxxxxx

moen - white - boll

or we can use prust on our 4th line, but then we would need 2+ 3rd liners.
aaaaaaah what i would give to have a mcginn - bournival - kulemin 3rd line, just isnt realistic tho

defense:

gorges - subban
markov - emelin
tinordi - diaz

That XXXXX on the fourth line should be replaced by Moen. Also no way Galchenyuk doesn't play center next year.

I think you bring up a good point. We don't need to be spending big money on 3rd or 4th liners, we should either be developing them ourselves (something Bergevin is attempting to do) or signing/trading for them on the cheap.

How much more are we getting out of Briere for 4mil than WPG with Frolik (2.3mil) or NYI with Bouchard (2mil)? We could let go of our 3rd line (Bourque-Desharnais-Briere) and save ~11mil on the cap. We can sign a top line forward (Vanek @ 8mil) and a 3rd liner (Setoguchi @ 3mil) for that sort of money.

Vanek-Plekanec-Gallagher
Pacioretty-Eller-Galchenyuk
Leblanc-Bournival-Setoguchi
Prust-White-Moen

or

Pacioretty-Eller-Gallagher
Galchenyuk-Plekanec-Gionta
Bourque-Briere-Desharnais
Prust-White-Moen

who would you drop down to the 3rd line then? i mean if galchenyuk is gonna play C next year then we might as well trade plekanec for a solid winger

forwards:

xxxxxx (for plekanec) - galchenyuk - gallagher

pacioretty - eller - xxxxxxx (simmonds would be a decent fit here, we wouldnt need to give up anyone from our core for him. beaulieu +)

prust - bournival - xxxxxxx (would put kulemin here if he was available at a decent price this off season)

moen - white - boll

defense:

gorges - subban
markov - emelin
tinordi - diaz

I really hope Galchenyuk plays center next year. I actually hope to see him get moved there this year after the olympic break.

i mean we could always throw a ****ton of money at vanek and have:
vanek - galchenyuk - gallagher as our 1st line

then we could trade plekanec for stewart+ or simmonds+ 2nd line:
pacioretty - eller - simmonds/stewart

3rd line:
prust - bournival - xxxxxx(kuli pls)

4th line:
moen - white - reaves(ufa signing)

:hyper:
