We have to wait for the report from somebody else saying he won't be signing in Winnipeg, then we'll know it's a done deal.Is he re-signing in Winnipeg? Basu reported they working on a deal.
Hopefully he doesn’t get re-signed and goes anywhere else…Jets need a 2C, not 3rd liner Monahan
Monahan is best played anywhere but on the Jets…that trade was a waste of a 1st round pick. He did absolutely nothing for WPG and solved nothing in our needs.Monahan is a 3C or you can play him as a power winger in the top 6. From his time with the Habs, he didn't complain one bit by playing both center and wing. He's really good on the forecheck, faceoffs, and in front of the net. He's a strong boy with decent skill. Skating holds him back but in tight spaces, he does create a lot of havoc.
Jets traded for him as a 2C solution and then faced the speedy Avs. Bad combo. Monahan is an alright 2C in the regular season but not in the playoffs against a legit contender like the Avs. If the Jets had a better 2C and was able to move Monahan to wing, I think they get better results.

Chevy should have been fired the second he made that trade
He did nothing for us in the regular season..we were playoff bound before we got him, so anything he did adds no value. As for the playoffs, he sucks. He performed well in the regular season for the Jets. You faced the skilled and speedy Avs bud. You might have a different opinion today if you faced someone else in the 1st round and beat them.
Totally understand what you are saying but after you traded Dubois, it left a 2C hole. That might take a long time to fill. Until then, Monahan might be a good signing based on the options
Who would you try to get to play 2C, if you let Monahan walk?

Anyone would be better than Monahan…I’d get a dead raccoon over Monahan…it’s stupid to waste money on a player you don’t need just to do it.
Monahan did nothing to help us get into the playoffs…we were already there…he added absolutely nothing to the team…he actually subtracted from the Jets because we wasted money on him instead of getting a proper 2C that could have helped.24 pts with 13 goals in 34 game is not nothing.
Their power play was 22nd in the league before Monahan and top 5 when he came there, absolutely had an impactIs when it did nothing to help us get into the playoffs…we were already there…he added absolutely nothing to the team…he actually subtracted from the Jets because we wasted money on him instead of getting a proper 2C that could have helped.
You like him so much, take him back…give us our pick back and you can have your player back
I would think he'll take lower AAV to try to get more years honestly given his injury history. 4x4ishIs Monahan going to get north of 5 million per?

Monahan has his good points and his bad points:
- Good FO
- Good PP
- He's a good 3C
- Meh defensively
- Soft as butter
- Slow as hell
- He's not a top 6 center on a good playoff team
- He was a ghost in the playoffs
He's exactly what I thought he was, would never want to sign him long term, but he's an ok bridge solution ideally in a lesser role on the 3rd line only (& PP specialist). I would sign him short term cheap (2-3 years at 4 million example), but if he wants big money or long term see yah bc he's not worth big money or long term IMO.

Fair, undeniably though he's very effective in that bumper position. Good 3C option for a team with really solid two way centers in the top sixAnyone who watched the Jets PP would 100% attribute that more to Vilardi. Monahan was definitely an upgrade on the PP, but Vilardi down low was the key to the improvement.
Firing Brad Lauer is the biggest key for next season though
Aside from being willing to sign him to any term or money, I agree with most of thisMonahan has his good points and his bad points:

As third line center going to be toughIs Monahan going to get north of 5 million per?
3x5M was my guesstimate, but I doubt he gets that from a contender, I think his injury history will scare off a lot of suitors, in particular those already cutting costs to respect the cap. But a borderline playoff team looking for a boost, say like Detroit, might see him as an option. From a bottom 10 team with cap space, maybe. From a contender who would really need him at 3C... Probably $3-$4M range. Cap has increased but those top contenders are still tight to the cap.
Term is another thing to ponder. He finally played a full season but his past injuries are still fresh on GM minds. Still young but doubt teams go deeper than 3 or 4 years.
Avs or Bruins are my guess. 3 years at $4.5M and he might get a decent NTC list of teams.
