To Calgary

Christian Dvorak (4.45 cap)
Oliver Ekman-Larsson (8.25 cap)

To Arizona

Sean Monahan (6.375 cap)
Noah Hanifin (4.95 cap)

Calgary downgrades at center but upgrades at LD and has a guy in place when Gio’s deal is up/he retires in two years. Arizona upgrades at center and rolls with Hanifin and Chychrun as their 1 and 2 at LD.

My thinking is Treliving and Maloney have shown a tendency to bring in their past players (Smith, Stone, Reider) and that could continue here with two guys they drafted in OEL and Dvorak. It also reunites Dvorak with Tkachuk.

Could also see Arizona be willing to take on Milan Lucic if Calgary retains part of the deal. Calgary could then potentially put the cap savings toward Taylor Hall.

Pretty fair. But also very lateral, not sure why either team does it.

Re-shuffling the deck doesn’t work for teams that are a few pieces away from being true contenders.

Monahan to AZ doesn’t improve the offense by enough to make the team better since their D is also getting worse. And vice versa with the Flames

Where are all the Monahan proposals coming from? Did I miss something? Flames aren't exactly deep in talent down the middle, why would they trade Monahan?

I think it makes some sense for both sides and is pretty decent value. As an Arizona fan, I'd probably do it (although it hurts bad to lose Dvorak). I would wonder about OEL's NMC, though.

Maybe AZ could include Hall's negotiating rights? Maybe Calgary could include Lucic with some retention? Tilt the cap in favor of Calgary and give them first shot at Taylor Hall?

Is this deal more attractive to Flames fans if Arizona also agrees to take back Lucic, maybe at 25% retention?

I really like Dvorak but would do that deal. Makes Arizona better.

The left side is pretty much set with Gio, Hanifin and Valimaki. RD is more of a need with only Andersson signed for next season with any real NHL experience. Also, does any team really want to trade within their division/conference with two players like OEL and Monahan?

Hanifin is in the OP. Gio will be 37 when the season starts.

If Arizona is going to take on Lucic to facilitate them losing Hall as a UFA to Calgary, they need to shut down that franchise. That's some clown shit right there.

They spent right to the cap this season. It didn’t even come close to working. But they did make it further than Edmonton, Toronto, and Pittsburgh, so there’s that. But anyway, it’s clear the veteran core isn’t getting it done. They need to move out everyone over 25 (other than Kuemper) and keep the majority of the under 25 set.

It’s just facing facts man. They tried. They failed. They need to look for advantages where they can.

Hall isn't coming back. Don't really care where he goes next. Yes, Calgary is in Arizona's division but only one more season til we're booted to the Central.

Lucic had a good playoffs. He still takes too many slow footed penalties but he was engaged and the piss and vinegar was back. Arizona has none of that. He could be an interesting fit at 4 mil or so.
