I think Matz's case is a bit different since he played the home-town angle and they were the ones that went to the Mets (not the other way around). Cohen should still shut the f*** up, but f*** Matz and his agent, too.
I read an article today, on ESPN, that said basically there's a growing sense around the game that the Mets are an even more dysfunctional shit show now with Cohen at the helm than they were with the Wilpons. Which is terrifying and sad, but also totally believable.

Needless to say, not a great offseason so far for the Mets. Hope they have plans in place for replacing Thor, Conforto and Loup.

Was it Olney’s? Not saying it’s not true, but he’s got a weird obsession with Cohen. Flies off the handle on Twitter about him and the Mets all the time. Like a child. It’s very weird. Especially considering he washed Steinbrenner’s balls, who didn’t exactly behave conservatively as an owner.

Yes, it was Buster, I had to go back and look. I didn't even realize it was him. I read it in the car while my wife ran into the grocery store.

Mets were busy today. It’s a good start but they have a lot of work to do. I still have hope they can work it out with Baez and Stroman.

Man what is the payroll going to look like this year? They gotta be way over $200M and they haven't even signed any starters.

Mets really went for it with 33 year olds huh? Hope we’re back on the juice in baseball

those are OPS guys. Yeah, you wonder if the wheels will fall off.

If they add Baez, that’s a pretty exciting lineup. Collectively they should see better pitches. They all work the count.

pitching? lol

What is a McNeil, J.D. Davis, etc worth? A 4th starter forced into the #2 role?

Steve Cohen, Mets can afford risky spending and what comes next (nypost.com)

"When it comes to this version of the Mets — the Steve Cohen Mets — we have to dismiss most financial restraints. The agreements reached Friday take the Mets to a $230 million-ish projection for 2022. If you were betting, take the over from that. Cohen appears determined to try to keep the Mets contenders with his wallet while they work to fix their underlying issues, including improving a feeder system that could provide more cost-efficient pieces.

That is why the only top starter remaining in free agency I suspect they will shun is Robbie Ray. The AL Cy Young winner was made and rejected the qualifying offer so, if the Mets signed him, they would lose the 14th pick in next year’s draft. And they do not want to do that. For even after being spurned by Steven Matz and Noah Syndergaard, they have alternatives.

I would not be surprised, in fact, if they added three starters an went to a six-man rotation often in 2022 as a way to protect Jacob deGrom and Carlos Carrasco and have depth for an inevitable injury. For example, could the Mets sign Gausman, Carlos Rodon and Rich Hill, begin the year with Tylor Megill and David Peterson in the minors and feel like, yes, there is a lot of age and injury volatility there, but also a lot of upside and protection?"

Per Joel Sherman. Sherman also says on Twitter that an exec told him he'd be shocked if they don't have Gausman in the next 48 hours. Sherman also says another exec told him they're in the market for more than 1 SP.
