Ralph Kiner passed today at ripe age of 91. HOF player. Legendary broadcaster. RIP.
So we as Yankees fans get another retirement tour this year....I love Jeter obviously and have only known him as my Yankees shortstop, but this is exhausting.
the yankees will be maximizing on this profit opportunity all season!![]()
Jeter looks like he has aged a lot the past couple of years. I'm sure the stress of being injured, rehabbing has been a lot to over come & the A-rod debacle hasn't helped at all.
He has been a great player & a great Yankee. What ever happens to him this season I wish him well.
From a Met fan.
Thank goodness....coming from a red soxs fan![]()
These farewell tours are nauseating. 2012 we had Chipper Jones, 2013 we had Mariano Rivera, and 2014 we're gonna have Derek Jeter.
Why do athletes feel the need to have the spotlight on them the whole season? I'm gonna wanna kill myself when the Mets give Jeter some stupid gift during the Subway Series.
"And here's a mosaic photo of all the babes you've banged over your time as a Yankee Jeter!"
Give me a ******* break.
I have to agree as a Yankees fan.
In some cases, like Gretzky's last season then yeah go for it.
But all that hoopla over a closer last year was pretty weird.

And I will say that it's extremely egotistical to announce your retirement BEFORE the season starts.
Gretzky did it right. People knew it was his last season, but since he never formally announced it until after the Pens game, all he received was standing ovation after standing ovation. No trophies. No awards. No prizes. Just a zillion thank yous from the fans.
YES broadcasts and Michael Kay are going to be unbearable this season. The Radio will be even worse. I'll watch the Spanish version.
Oh totally - because the first word I think of when I think of Derek Jeter is "egotistical"
Well....

Don't really care about Jeter, but the "farewell tour" is stupid and forced. I didn't like when Chipper had one, I didn't like when Mo (who I actually do like) had his, and I won't like when David Wright has his.
I don't think other franchises should feel obligated to pay tribute to another teams player.
Wouldnt be surprised one bit if the Yankees encouraged him to announce it before the season.
More butts in the seat knowing its Jeter's final year. Thats just the way things work.
