I still can't believe they paid 25 million dollars per for a guy that can only be evaluated based on scouting reports.

As of they were the only team that was going to pay him a lot...

If the Cubs signed him it wouldnt be a big deal...but because the yankees did it is...

I'll trust the baseball people in the know who have seen him pitch over the people on this board

I'd rather trade him and A-Rod to the Mets for pitching prospects; after all, bad apples that stick together rot together.

Besides, how many seasons Pineda had pitched since 2011? Zero, which is the number of rings both Mattlingly and Ewing have.
Yes, let's run our team based on that logic...
Garza signed with Milwaukee for 4/52

Thats $100M less for a guy that has thrown MLB pitches, for those scoring at home.

The yankees weren't interested Garza. Tanaka is 25. I know people will bring up the amount of innings

Rather have Michael Young. I'm not sold on Drew. Unless the yanks are looking at him as Jeter's replacement when he retires.

Michael Young blows. No thanks.

I'm more content with Johnson and Roberts.

seeing as the Yankees have no one to take over for Jeter when he retires... that might be a good guess..

Unfortunately, with the new posting system, Tanaka was going to be paid a lot. The new posting system allowed multiple teams to negotiate a contract with him as long as they were willing to pay the posting fee.

Darvish would have had a similar deal if it was under this system. Instead, Rangers were lucky and had exclusive rights last year.

I hope the Yankees make a package, especially when Jeffrey Loria is into rebuilding a lot.

To Yankees:

Nathan Eovaldi
Scott McGough
Giancarlo Stanton
Future Considerations (Draft Picks/cash/player to be named later)

To Marlins:

A-Rod
Michael Pineda
Future Considerations (Draft Picks/cash/player to be named later)

How is trading Stanton and Eovaldi and getting A-Rod in return rebuilding?

Think before you post.

No way. Young is horrible. Had negative WAR last season. Drew was a 3.4 WAR player, tied for 6th in baseball amongst shortstops.

Can Drew play 3rd?

We need that alot more than a shortstop. Jeter isn't going anywhere and we have Ryan to spell him when need be.

Well, I know a couple of Marlins fans in real life that would never live down that aspect of Jeffrey Loria's ownership of the Marlins.

Here's a basic context of Jeffrey Loria's ownership of the Marlins:
1. Build up a team.
2. Win the World Series.
3. FIRE SALE!!!!!
4. Repeat.

Besides, Giancarlo Stanton and Nathan Eovaldi are young enough to complement the Yankee veterans. The Yankees obviously need a balance of veterans and youngins.

The Yankees used to outbid everyone internationally. Well, except the Dodgers and Blue Jays. But for a long time, they had the market cornered.

Now almost every team pumps money into international scouting. The Yankees can only lure these kids with their name. They usually lose out on a lot of Latin and Asian kids.

I would personally rather they spend the millions of player development and scouting, but they fielded so many pathetic lineups last season, you knew a big splash was coming.

I dont know. These guys will be very tough to beat this year, but unless it's the start of a mini dynasty, it will be just another example of the Yankees outspending everyone.

Forget the fact that the Marlins have been completely unwilling to put Stanton on the market and are currently trying to lock him up long term. You are delusional if you think the Yankees have the pieces to acquire Stanton from the Marlins, let alone both Stanton and Eovaldi. Loria's an awful owner but that doesn't mean he's going to do the Yankees a massive favor for ***** and giggles.

1. Please, that's like dismissing that Loria would not pull off another fire sale.

2. How am I delusional, when Loria has a proven track record of fire sales? It's expected of him, actually. He should even consider himself lucky he's getting veteran and playoff experience, should he agree to receive A-Rod. Besides, what's more delusional than you claim about me is the Yankees' denial of needing youth; both Stanton and Eovaldi are much-needed injections of youth that complement the vets in the Yankees.

Yes, let's run our team based on that logic...

In both 2012 and 2013 seasons, Pineda was injured or doing rehab on his arm to the point I dismissed him as a project. When the Yankees made it to the playoffs in 2012, was Pineda there? No, he got injured.

If anything, he's valuable trade bait at when healthy at best, a project at worst.

You are not going to get Stanton in return for A-Rod. A-Rod is a distraction who wont even contribute next season. He's massively overpayed and brings a circus to town wherever he goes. Red Sox parted with Adrian Gonzalez in order to ditch a bad Beckett contract and a horrible Carl Crawford contract. You have to add an important pieces along with A-Rod just to get the other team to bite on A-Rod.

Any trade for Stanton would require something like Pineda, Garry Sanchez and another good prospect.

First, they're trying to extend him: https://twitter.com/JimBowdenESPNxm/status/426466457372073987

Second, every time the Marlins have traded away an established talent under Loria they got high level young talent back. They dealt Beckett and Lowell for Hanley Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez. They dealt Ramirez for Eovaldi. They dealt Reyes, Buehrle, and Johnson for a large package of prospects including Hechavarria. If Stanton hits the trade market, teams will be lining up to offer bundles of top prospects. The Yankees have nothing in their farm of the caliber required to win a prospect bidding war for Stanton.

He should even consider himself lucky he's getting veteran and playoff experience, should he agree to receive A-Rod.

What on Earth is a rebuilding franchise like the Marlins going to do with a broken down, old Alex Rodriguez? They're trying to build around young talent like Stanton and Fernandez, not ship it out for washed up vets.

Besides, what's more delusional than you claim about me is the Yankees' denial of needing youth; both Stanton and Eovaldi are much-needed injections of youth that complement the vets in the Yankees.

Nobody's saying it wouldn't be a good deal for the Yankees. Obviously any hypothetical deal for Stanton would be good for them. It's just entirely unrealistic to think they could pull it off. They don't have the pieces. You don't seem to grasp this, but other teams don't exist to gift the Yankees their young star players. The Yankees would get laughed out of the room if they met with the Marlins and made your proposed offer.

As a Yankees fan I'd love Stanton. Unfortunately it'd take an overpayment to get him.

Yankees could put together a prospects package to land Stanton but it'd completely gut the farm. Sanchez, Heathcott, Jose Ramirez, De Paula, Williams etc. Some combination of that with Sanchez being the main piece. Sanchez would be a temptation for Marlins since they are slim pickings behind the plate in their system.

I don't think they could even put a competitive package together. Look at the prospect rankings: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb...ospects-list?ymd=20140123&content_id=66929504

The Yankees have only two in the top 100 and their highest rated is Sanchez at 47. There are so many teams with superior farm systems and Stanton is such a desirable asset that it's pretty easy to come to the conclusion that any package they might put together would get pretty easily blown out of the water by at least half a dozen teams.

Yanks might as well pull off a salary dump for draft picks.

To the guy talking fire sale...Do you even know what a fire sale means?? A fire sale means dumping high priced vets for young cheap talent you don't take back A Rod in a fire sale especially with his baggage and salary plus he will never play again...As a Mets fan the little I know about your farm system is its empty...You in no way have the chips to land Stanton

Ralph Kiner passed today at ripe age of 91. HOF player. Legendary broadcaster. RIP.
