Third line*. If that’s your second line you have problems.Connor Brown 56GP 21G 14A 35P
Kasperi Kapanen 40GP 11G 19A 30P
Nazem Kadri 56GP 11G 21A 32P
I take a full 2nd line any day of the week over a winger. They all are on good contracts too.

Poll should be Marner, Kerfoot, Mikheyev and it’s Marners group by a landslide.
I don’t think you’re making the playoffs if that’s your second line. This was their pace this year :
Connor Brown (31 goals, 51 pts) - Nazem Kadri (16 goals, 47 pts) - Kasperi Kapanen (23 goals, 61 pts)
I mean, it's not Maple Leafs dynasty level but those are absolutely 2nd line numbers (or more), particularly if you consider that Kadri could provide more in a more offensive role.
I don’t think you’re making the playoffs if that’s your second line.

Are they really elite talent if they are completely invisible during the playoffs?
Marner is paid like an elite talent, I'm not so sure he actually is elite though.
Marner’s value has tanked and rightfully so. Hopefully he gets traded or exposed at the Seattle entry draft and they take him.
Kadri is a 2C/2W
Kapanen is a 2-3W
Brown is a 2-3W
I’ll take that over Marner
If we went into the playoffs with this as a forward core Instead:
Brown - Matthews - Kadri
Kapanen - Tavares - Nylander
Hyman - Kerfoot - Mikheyev
Simmonds - Engvall - Spezza
we would’ve had a better chance, better depth and our top line would have 3 scoring threats, instead of .5 against the habs who knows, who cares. Back to sulking
Since it's three against one, I think the real gist of the poll is which line would win if they went head-to-head:
Mitch Marner + two fringe NHLers playing with league minimum salaries
or
Brown - Kadri - Kapanen
The second unit is actually cheaper, by $1.65m
Maybe.The first line is better.
You're not elite if you can be shut down to 0 goals in 18 playoff games like Marner. One season where he finished in the top 4 in points (in a weird season where teams only played within their division) is not enough to call him elite.LOL. Yes, they are still elite talent if they finish 4th in league scoring. They might need a therapist to get through the post season, but they are DEFINITELY still elite in the talent dept.

Nope, sorry. Show up when it matters. He's good at racking up points in the regular season, is a liability when the going gets tough. Not elite.LMAO.
Uh, Marner had a 94 point season a few years ago, followed by "pacing" for another 93 point season, and then pacing for 101 points this year. He is VERY elite. He's one of the league's best RW's.
How is this close?
If the salaries were 3-4M apart, I could understand going with less salary. However, it's 100k difference. You win in the NHL with elite talent, not a combination of 2nd line/middle six forwards.

True, but that isn’t something I could prove or not, so I didn’t mention it but it definitely is a possibilityHow do you know? Maybe the mental block affects them too.
