The Leafs miss him a lot. Especially on the defensive side of the game. His offense too, of course. Not his PP time though.

I get the contract angst. I don’t get letting that prevent you from enjoying him at his craft, because he’s a pretty special talent.

Also a lot of the Marner haters seem like defective humans to be honest, it’s a weird projection more than fair debate IMO.

How can anyone enjoy this after seeing how useless he has been in the playoffs? Anyone who has watched him play a shift the last 3 playoff series knows that we will never win anything with that cap hit. 0 goals in his last 19 playoff games. Top 5 nhl salary. Disgusting

I like Mitch, but with the 2,000 Mitch threads we've had, I'm not sure what's left
to say.

Well said!

Looking at his accomplishments since his contract, his supporters can keep saying "wait and you will see" but the fact is two seasons have past and he's proven to be overpaid; we won't get the last 2 playoffs back.

Can't help but wonder what 3 million in cap space might have done for us in the past couple years. We may have won a cup.
Now we have Muzzin/Tavares getting older with their abilities diminishing while our young overpaid youth learn how to win in the playoffs and learn how to be 11 million dollar players.

This. Nobody can know what the future will bring but those last two seasons are wasted and gone forever.

So...... how did you vote? :tmi::blah:

He is definitely better than the players replacing him in the line-up.
However just imaging what kind of players we could replace him with 11 million dollars.
Matthews has proven he can score with anyone on his wing so that makes replacement easier

Yep, definitely top 5 on the team. Replacing a top 5 player on a top heavy team is extremely difficult.
It might take some doing but having almost 11 million dollars to replace him might help.
There are a lot of very good players making less then that

People complaining about a player in an appreciation thread should be thread banned. There’s plenty of other places for the trolls to copy and paste their drivel.
Any thread that starts with a poll about a player that includes the choices
“Hate him” “indifferent “ has opened itself up to allow people to explain why they may have chosen on of those 2 options.
So your opinion that it is trolling and should be banned is poorly thought out

I wondered about who added the poll?

"Your Honour, the client said he had never broken the law, so that opened the door to our question about whether he has ever had a speeding ticket."

The poll and "appreciation thread" title are incongruous.

But, we cannot let this thread be derailed.

So let's suggest any non-appreciation comments are restricted to the vote, and not let this become another tiring, "My dad can beat up your dad!"

Who starts an appreciation thread and includes the options “hate him” or “indifferent”
I did.
It allows those that are courteous enough to not spoil the sentiment of the thread to still let their feelings be known.

One thing, it isn’t just the takeaways, which he now routinely is near or tops in the league, it’s the disruption too. For every takeaway, there’s a bunch of puck tips, a player forced to correct, he’s just a pest, disrupting the flow of the other team. It’s really a treat to watch and I’ll guaranteed other coaches really appreciate this about him when they watch tape.

Imagining is all well and good, but you gotta make the players and their contracts work for both teams.
you can have 11 million in capspace so who is available? Guys that are elite already have contracts. Try and get one as a UFA if and when they become available.
