He's so dangerous on the PK, I mean it's blasphemous to compare anyone to 99 so I won't go there but still ...

It does feel like he's right on the verge of greatness. It seems this place is polarized on the subject of Marner, most people are either already singing his praises and they are unhappy when people bring up the lack of playoff production, or they're like me - absolutely thrilled with the way he's playing but not quite ready to put a crown on his head until he produces in the playoffs the way he does in the regular season. He's playing so well right now though, by far the best he's ever been so hard to imagine him withering away in the playoffs, we'll see. I don't want to jinx anything but it's hard not to believe this is the year he brings it in the playoffs and if he does, and if the team breaks through as well, I think most people will agree that Marner is one of the truly elite players in the world.

I want playoff success so bad ...
Pretty much Denis Savard level performances lately

Just a note, MM is now the fastest Leaf to 300 assists

Congrats Mitchell

Please be a Leaf for life.

That little spin-o-rama in the neutral zone reminded me old 18.

Marner is the closest thing this team has had to Gretzky's passing and playmaking - he makes Matthews better and Matthews makes him more effective. Their chemistry is undeniable and only improving - they practice no-look passes to each other and have a keen awareness of what the other one will do/wants to do on the ice. You separate them, it will be a massive setback. Matthews and Marner should retire as Leafs

I am here for the bromance

He is not only shooting more when its the best option, but he is checking more.

If he has figured out how important it is to be engaged in the game physically, he is going to take his game to the next level. Really, he already has over the last month or so. Please continue.

You won't always have the puck, but if you are hustling, stealing pucks and taking the body, you are always active in the game. Very important that the best players remain active in the game. This not only often decides the outcome, it also leads by example.

I agree. This was really noticeable with Marner last night. If that top line engages a little bit physically, they just end up with the puck more.

The other advantage of hitting a bit is that you seem to get hit less. I love how these guys are playing.

Please continue indeed, and don't stop until the playoffs are over. I said at the beginning of the year that our best hope for playing better in the next playoffs than we did last season was Marner - that boy is so talented, he has so much more to give and if he plays to his potential, that's enough to lift the team up a notch or two on it's own. And we always seem to fall just a notch short in the playoffs, don't we? Marner is playing like a superstar recently and if can do it in the playoffs (which as we all know is a lot tougher to do), that will be huge.

Of course someone has to stop pucks for us, without that it's all for naught.

Mitch since January 1st: 33 games - 22 goals - 33 assists - 55 points (1.67 ppg, a 55 goal, 82 assist 137 point pace)

He's been by far and away the best point producer since the new year. Second place is Huberdeau at 1.57 ppg. It's unbelievable how good he has been

I have a good feeling this is the year Marner explodes in the playoffs.

I generally agree. If Mitch and Auston are out there throwing hits as they have been no one else has any excuse not to be

I think Marner and Matthews are gonna shut a lot of people up this year. Although, I still believe they played pretty well last year when you consider Auston’s wrist. The effort was there, the finish wasn’t.

Take it back even further.

Winger rankings since October 26th (around the time they stopped forcing him to play with Ritchie and Matthews got back in the lineup and in game shape):

PPG:
1. Marner (and first in the entire NHL)
2. Huberdeau
3. Gaudreau
4. Panarin
5. Tkatchuk

Marner also has a better GPG than the other 4 guys on the list.

Outside of those first two weeks, Marner looks very comparable to the "MVP favorites" behind him on the list and is a stud on the PK as well.

Hell, we can even do it for all positions since October 26th

1: Marner - 1.50 ppg
2: Matthews 1.47 ppg

These two have been the best players in hockey for most of the regular season

Also, a fun note. Since October 26th, 6 of the top 10 PPG players are from Canadian teams. Last season there was 4 in the top 10 for PPG. Canadian division boosting stats and all..........

I sure hope you're right, gotta happen sometime tight? And if not this year when his line is hot hot hot then when?

Gotta hope we somehow get some goaltending too because if we don't, we're likely out in the 1st round no matter how well the rest of the team plays. Here's hoping!
