Marner .... SOOOOOO CLOSE here.

5 points in 2 games, 2-way force

Not sure how much more you could ask from him. He's been the best forward in the series (along with Matthews)
Great PK last night.
He's playing great.

Posted this in the other thread - but felt it needed to echo'd with all the hate he received going into the playoffs:

Marner has been incredible. He's PKing, Defending with his body, and generating so many scoring chances.

Could have taken the lead with 2 more goals that just barely missed yesterday:

The shorthanded opportunity on the PK:

The shorthanded opportunity on the PK:

He had four blocks last night. Also 7 shots, no giveaways and disrupting stuff all over the ice. That line was hemmed in a couple times but if you watch the sequences really was the least culpable. He’s given our PK a character and attitude, more than anyone else.

I Iove him actually using body positioning now on the boards to win pucks.

Maybe the most complete Leaf since Gilmour.

Marner proving all the doubters wrong this year. Great production, great on the PK, taking hits to make important plays, blocking shots. What a beauty.

He's been playing really well.

I really wanted to be able to say that about both Marner and Matthews last year, it didn't happen but fantastic this year so far.

Hopefully they can keep this up, the sky feels like it is the limit when both are on their game.

5. Kampf
6. Hedman
7. Palat
8. Engvall
9. Colton
10. Kerfoot

Muzzin, McDonagh, Kase, Paul and Mikheyev also acceptable answers.

Bottom 10:

1. Sergachev
2. Maroon
3. Simmonds
4. JT
5. Bogosian
6. Point
7. Vasilevskiy

JT, Point, Vasilevskiy, Nylander and Stamkos not playing to expectations, Bunting really hasn’t been bad.

Edit: Hagel - Stamkos

So why is he last of the bottom 10?

So why is he last of the bottom 10?

He’s only had a couple games and had trouble getting into the swing of things. The bottom five are mostly bad relative to expectations.

It was either Kucherov, who’s always dangerous, or Foote, who gets to play with Sergachev.

I subbed Hagel for Stamkos, because unlike JT Stamkos still looks like a threat most of the time.

Marner's definitely found his playoff footing and he's loving it out there. Glad to see that growth, confidence and joy in his game this season.

How awesome was it when Doug Gilmour offered to bring his #93 jersey down from the rafters so Mitch could wear it?

Killer knew we’d be seeing this Mitch Marner in the NHL.

I’d agree on PP, stamkos is a legit threat but 5v5 he hasn’t done much imo

Stamkos could easily have two goals, that open flub in game one and the robbery, that totally wasn’t shot right into Jack’s chest, last game.

Even still he’s right there. Stamkos is not an elite defensive center, I wouldn’t even say he’s a good one, but he puts the puck in the net.

The Leafs have overall done a fantastic job with Stamkos, Kucherov and Point, Point seems to be playing hurt but it still counts.

JT is winning face offs and not causing any bad defensive breakdowns, like that awesome Stamkos dive for the puck last game that led to the first EN, but he’s not doing anything in the offensive zone except stand in front of the net or keep a cycle going, but the cycle hasn’t been needed, the Leafs are getting their goals off crisp passing and rushes.

I think he can have a few big games towards the end of the series but a big game right now would also be nice.

game 4 marner looked familiar. he looked like the marner of the 2021 and 2020 playoffs/ins. useless, sad, pathetic, etc.
If the only issue for Marner is he doesnt always get points then you got to call that a win. He still tries his heart out, blocks shots and puts his body into scoring chances that sometimes come up short. The issue isnt that Marner or Matthews don't score 4 points a night each, the issue is when the team as a whole can't put in 60 minutes. I don't care who you are, no one player is good enough to overcome the rest of the team laying a stinker, something Matthews and Marner have shown multiple times this season.

Marner learned from last year and proved that you has to be pretty cautious with your hot takes. Think about this performance in another uniform.
