We have a secondary scoring issue and a scoring issue in the playoffs. When the best teams clamp down on our best players, there is nobody else to worry about as a scoring threat. That's why depth matters to winning teams. It's why cap matters. If you don't believe me look at how many series we have won in 8 years.

If we were MTL the fans would be tomato chucking this team last season. The pressure on Dubas and Keefe would have been enormous and tbh. I appreciate MTL fans for their ability to poopoo on their team when need be. Good for them.

Toronto fans will eat shit and ask for more.
Montreal has been garbage for the last 3-4 years and their fans have been sharing clips of Hutson spinning and firing a shot toward the slot and celebrating getting a 1st for Monahan at the deadline/ taking on Laine's contract / trading a 1st for Kirby Dach

Hate him to the end of time? Put so much pressure on him, he regrets being here? If we win a Cup this year, no problem lol, anything short of that and it just isn't tenable here. Read the room is my advice, take 12.75 on an eight year deal, the media will spin it as fair, given the cap. Make some endorsement deals and retire a Leaf, hold records and have your jersey retired.
Simialr to how he'd be 'boood' this season ?

What exactly will the fan base do if he gets $14 million per season?

The core will eat all the blame if there is no success or cap or path to a cup. The plan the parade era will be over. Not sure the extent ownership and brand will be hurt.

I think it will be huge considering the promise, quality of players and odds to get another go of it.

It's high stakes for sure and the Tanev and OEL deals basically screamed are going for it now.

Nothing. They will continue to worship at the their altars and then when they retire they will cheer at the jersey retirement ceremony. This is the same market that cheered Vince Carter's jersey retirement.

I think their case will be that Matthews only signed for 4 years while Marner's camp will sign for 8, add to that the impending cap increase and I can see where Ferris is going with it.
The cap is projected to be rise to 92m. If he wants his percentage based on the $100m projected in subsequent years, he can GTFO. The goal is for his contract to be a bargain as the cap increases so they can add impact players, not washed up Jumbos and shitty Ritchies.

Bend over and cough or bitch and let management hear it. APATHY is a fan's friend. Signing Marner for $14m would be the signal to give up on this f***ing franchise ever winning a cup.

If Marner thinks the heat was bad this summer, imagine what it will be if he were signed for $14m and he lays another playoff egg. He will be begging for a trade. Most likely no team would be willing to take on that contract so Leafs would have to give him away. Only a matter of time when they are drafting top 5 again if they keep their 1st.

I'm a massive Marner fan but in no way, shape or form is he worth 14 million. I would happily let him walk.

Haha.

Marner not so much. That 13 14m could be become ROR JT and part of Knies.

Sorry for the next 3 years I would rather have ROR JT and Knies here. 100% more likely to get a cup with those players

Then you get another 6m to spend on another player with savings from the new JT contract. Suddenly things look up

JT and ROR will be shambling corpses in three years, and I like Knies but he hasn’t proven anything yet and now has multiple concussions on his record.. cmon these takes are wild.

So what. So will Tanev Rielly and OEL. They are all going to the old age home together and are under contract after.

May as well try and win now

Good'ol Mitch and his agent. If history shows us, he'll come in at between 12.5-13m not the 14m he's asking. His agent timed this nicely...AGAIN, asking for Matthews or more than Matthews money like the first negotiation. "See, I can carry the team without him. ". Mitch got a little bit less than Matthews the last time and then Matthews proceeded badly outplay him for the majority of the contract becoming a better and better player while Mitch still hasn't improved and probably never played to the level of his current contract.

Unless, this time unlike the last time or that previous the last time, his "hard work" will finally pay off and he won't play the role of a ghost in the playoffs.

I'm saying he gets 12.916 (the 16 for his number) x 8 and will sign it sometimes in February.
