Soooo the other negotiations with Mitch's camp haven't clicked with folks that they are actually pushing for Draisaitl money??

I'm sure its going to get framed as a "team friendly" deal either way.

The PR work damage control from last years playoffs has looked pretty successful, MLSE adores this fanbases' short memory.

Cap is going up + 8 years + Austonflation + MLSE ineptitude = Huge number coming up for Marner soon.
Honestly the one big takeaway from the Dubas era was, you never know when some shit is gonna happen. Rising tensions globally, hopefully things chill out but never bet on the rising cap when signing deals. Dubas killed this teams chances with that.

Any update on when the promised booing is taking place?
April 20th 2025 possibly :sarcasm: (hopefully not)

Imagine in a years time 1 and 2 top players are McDavid and the Mitch. It would be the joke of the hockey world. I almost want to create a poll on the main boards. How much would you accept your team paying for Mitch Marner x7yrs.

The problem is 1 year into McDavid's contract, Austonflation will need a new deal. And he'll finally be looking for an 8 year deal with his new German sheep hip replacement.

Didn’t Kypreos float 14? I may be mistaken I’m just asking

that's Kypreos floating stuff out there. He's a former union rep who will always aim to push the salary ceiling to be as high as it can for players. I realistically see 12 for marner even maybe 12.5. But I do think Marner if he gets 13 will not be a Maple Leaf, he'll be wearing another jersey. I don't think there's a world where Marner is paid higher than Matthews while still being a member of the Maple Leafs.

is it possible if he ends up going to UFA? potentially.

The numbers in his 1st negotiation sounded ridiculous too until he got paid it

he wasn't paid anywhere close to the numbers in the speculated offersheet. Weren't people saying he was going to get a 13m offersheet from columbus or something?

If he's the engine, we don't need a whole new gear - what we need is for the new mechanic (Berube) to figure out why the engine stalls early in the last lap of every race.
Well he did send the other guy to Germany to find the glitch in his matrix when he invariably stalls in the last lap:naughty:

You should watch the segment

To sum it up, Kypreos said because of the new projected cap 14 wouldn't be out of the question

Bourne said the Leafs won't give him that

Kyper said that's OK because there's somebody out there that will, based on the new percentages of a 97 or 98m dollar cap

He never suggested that somebody SHOULD PAY Marner 14. Or that he thinks Marner would get, and only because he's pretty sure someone somewhere would.

Kypreos is pro Marner though, especially in any comparison with Nylander or Matthews.

Next you’ll get a layering of Darren Dreger who will whisper and escalate the number as well.

I will say though that with the reporting of the cap going up above $100 million, our understanding of those old dollar figures will be destabilized. Not that I love cap percentage chat, but $12 million will mean would be watered down etc. but only to a point. You still don’t want to pay Marner more than Mackinnon in absolute terms, etc.

I don’t see any team offering him $14 mill AAV...

Even if some sucker offers him $14 mill AAV they can only go 7 years which is $98 mill total. At 8-years that’s $12.25 mill AAV.

I don’t know why the Leafs keep bidding against themselves. Was any team going to pay Nylander $13 mill + AAV in free agency?

Kyper said Nylander was getting interest at 13.88m when he was up for contract

Marner is ranked like 12th in points. 91st in goals. Probably 1xxth in 5v5 points.

Sounds like the highest paid player in the NHL to me.

I don't know that anyone would really pay that much attention to it, points are points.

There have been a couple obvious examples lately.
Matthews win the face off forward, passes to Marner, Knies scores. Matthews second assist was the whole play.
Marner strips McDavid, puck goes to Tavares, McMann scores. Marners second assist was the whole play.

I'm sure we could come up with 100's . The whole thing is stupid and as mentioned it's just an attempt(poor one at that) to diminish the player.
Me and my friends have talked about this since before Sundin. Goals always have the biggest impact. A real bad player can miss a open net. A real bad pass can be saved by a realy good receiver. I would guess you would find a lotta more second assist with little or almost no impact then goals and first assists.

Even if a point is a point. A 70goal player is worth more then 70 second assist player. If everything is equal overall in all other areas.

But lets agree to disagree. All points:D are already made.
