This isn't the flu--it has a much higher rate of complications like pneumonia that require hospitalization in an ICU. We don't have enough ICU beds to meet projected demands, so widescale efforts to eliminate spread can keep the healthcare system from being overwhelmed.

Japan and South Korea closing schools wasn't done because of the risk of deaths in the student population, but because children are vectors for viral spread.
