I'm surprised there isn't a posting yet today.

I'm too young to have seen it, and I'm Canadian. It was however, the great upset of the great Russian Bear. Possibly the greatest upset in hockey history considering what was at stake.

USA upsets the heavily favoured Russians 4-3. Tretiak was pulled after 1 period, an insane move. U.S eventually beats Finland for the gold.

A bunch of amateurs beat a Russian giant that had only a year earlier beaten the NHL all-stars 6-0

I was 10 yrs old. I remember the local news breaking in to tell us they won. Amazing to think there was no live tv coverage. I remember watching the game w the Finns on Sunday morning to finish it off.

Obviously it was a really big deal. All my friends and I had Jim Craig posters and shirts. Good times.

I was attending a high school basketball game when the final score was announced. The crowd began chanting USA! USA! We went to my buddy's house after the bball game (our girlfriends wanted to go out) to watch the tape delayed game. Even knowing the final score, we didn't really believe it until we saw those final seconds tick off and Al Michaels made his famous call.

Remember it well.

I was in my dorm watching in a community room packed with students. It was an awesome and memorable game.

I remember hearing about it on the day of the game (in Canada), I have heard that it was broadcast live but I did not see it at the time. I have visited Lake Placid where you can sit and watch the game in its entirety. It is a special experience to watch the game and then go sit in the actual arena.
