Ivey and Duran might already be the two most athletic players on the Pistons.

I'm not even a basketball fan, but the Pistons could be a lot of fun to watch in the next few years. It's at least shaping the roster into something that makes sense with the current direction of the league, so I can't say Weaver is off the mark with his planning, which realistically is all you can ask from a GM.

He was widely regarded as the best draft and stash player in this class… 6’7”-6’8” athletic Euro shooters don’t grow on trees… I wouldn’t be surprised if he made the Pistons in 2023

He could be a real sleeper pick. Very excited about him as well.

Could not bring myself to pay real money for 3 bad baseball games. Especially with the rad book I am reading and shows I am binging keeping me occupied. But I will sacrifice my Sunday for the MLB gods. I am hoping for Angel Hernandez to be on the umpire crew so I can cross seeing the worst umpire in person off the bucket list.

I laughed, but at the same time, and I know I'm a Debbie downer, but I'm like that's damning with faint praise - shit team drafts high, gets some good players/pieces to build around, and everyone gets all optimistic during the off-season.

Honestly, none of the Detroit teams are good right now.

And while I think Avila sucks and needs to be gone too, drafting in baseball is way harder to get a read on than the other sports, as players toil away in the minors or poof goes their arm. I'm not going to give Holmes credit for Hutchinson, or Weaver building a lottery team. For what little I follow of the NBA, I get it and teams do things with trades, cap deals and whatnot, but that league has zero parity, whereas the Lions have the Fords.

I will give Yzerman credit for Seider, and not all his moves have been outstanding, but Kenny did a poor job at the end.

None are good... but.

Red Wings: Seider did just win the Calder. Raymond got 4th place? And a bunch of other young kids are looking pretty solid. Yzerman did some savvy maneuvering in using his cap to get Staal and a 2nd. Staal was perfectly capable as a bottom pairing guy. He's taking his time, but the Wings have oodles upon oodles of cap space after spending Holland's last years hard ramming the cap. They're in a place to start really advancing the rebuild right now. And he's got a bunch of guys buying into being Red Wings and who want to be here and build something.

Pistons: Stan Van and others did the same thing to the Pistons that Holland did to the Wings. No flexibility, no good players, nothing. Weaver has made moves that position the Pistons to potentially take a major step forward. Lottery luck for Cade to be sure, but the Pistons also have ridiculous cap, a bunch of guys who want to come here and even some potential high end FAs (Ayton, for one) that might want to come to Detroit to come play with Cade and Jade.

Lions: Really hard to grant them "good GM" status, because they looked to be cruising to a winless season last year.. but same refrain as Wings and Pistons. They have guys who are willing to run through a wall for their coach. Last year was always going to be really bad. But they fought back and actually looked like a remotely competent NFL team .

Avila took a fantastic but overpriced team and sold off Hall of Famers for pretty much no return. I think his best return came from trading Justin Wilson. He bungled the rebuild that he started with a pretty solid head start. And they don't have anyone on the farm remotely ready to come up and help. They've been bad for 7 years and have about four guys who profile as being anything more than completely middle of the road. They're in the Buffalo Sabres realm of if they don't improve wildly this year and next, they're rebuilding the rebuild.

Yep to all of that. Wings, Pistons and the shit-bird Lions all have reasons to be optimistic. The Tigers are swirling near the bottom of the toilet bowl and will go down the drain if Hinch leaves.

Aren't the Pistons in a similar situation like the Red Wings? They've assembled a potentially good young core through the draft. They also have huge cap space. For both teams, one major piece is still missing and not on the way, so it needs to be acquired somehow - but the upcoming free agency does not provide any really good fit.

I think the Pistons are ahead, if Ivey turns into a legitimate #2 scoring option they are off and running. In the last 2 years Weaver has completely turned the roster over which is impossible in any of the other 4 big American sports. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Pistons are competing for the playoffs/play in tournament next year.
