Leaving Quinn in place to botch the Okudah pick? Completely mishandling the Calvin situation?

I think the rest of the current front office has a decent chance at success. And despite having a lot to learn as a head coach, the players clearly have bought into Campbell. But Sheila has yet to do anything to convince me that as the owner of a 2.4 billion dollar franchise, she's any less of a clueless trust fund baby than her predecessors.
The Calvin situation was not mishandled. He did not want to uphold the terms of his contract that his own agent approved and he signed. He has also rejected cushy PR roles in exchange for the money so the Lions can be compliant with the NFL in terms of money. Dude is a cry baby. Respect his career but if he never associates with the Lions again I won't lose sleep over it.

It’s also the Lions being cheap compared to other teams in the league. Other players have retired and their teams haven’t pursued collecting their signing bonus. Most teams realize that burning bridges with their legends and fan favorites is bad for business. Driving these players to a mental breaking point where leaving the league with gas left in the tank is more desirable than sticking around and collecting a pay check is bad for business. Everything the organization seems to do is bad for business. The only reason it’s stayed afloat is because Detroit is a true football town. The fans aren’t going to pack it in; they want a winning team and hope that eventually the people running the show will get the f*** out of their own way. If you’re a half decent player, you look at the past 5 years and see the following.

The team was on the verge of doing something in the playoffs with a coach that was adored by the players. They didn’t have the horses because the clown who came from New England couldn’t scout or draft worth a damn. They fired the good not great coach and brought in a dickhead from New England who destroyed the locker room, destroyed the roster, and made the franchise QB so miserable that he was added to the list of franchise legends who wanted out of Detroit more than anything. Sprinkle in the ongoing bullshit with Calvin being treated like practice squad fodder and not like a Hall of Famer. I know I’d steer clear of that organization like my life depended on it…that is, unless they are my last chance to stick in the league or if they are going to give me a substantially overpaid contract (see Trey Flowers).

Calvin doesn’t “deserve” the money and the Lions deserve to publicly ridiculed for being run by a bunch of clowns. I’d say it has worked out pretty well.

Might drop off a FunkoPop for Larkin's Private Autograph signing in about a week. I'm pretty sure I don't want him to sign the front window the way most FunkoPops are signed. In that case, where would y'all recommend he sign?

Actually, I never understood why a team/franchise would defer to any third-party institution - like the HoF - when to decide whose number is to be retired. This is solely your decision, you know best what the player has done and means for the team plus the community!

I really like the people at Pro Sports Zone in Livonia so in a way you gotta give the people what they want but...

Holy cow this is just sad...

Mentally, I just picture the sad Wolverine meme, touching the picture frame when looking at this shirt.

And I can't unsee it. But then again, there are people that buy season tickets to Lions games, so I guess they can quasi cosplay watching a decent team play in the Superb Owl.

I guess I'm on an island, but I just don't understand all the strong reactions to Stafford in the Super Bowl. Likely because I never understood how polarized fans were when he was a Lion.

He's a good QB with some warts. Neither a lock for Canton that was totally paralyzed in Detroit, nor a bum that lucked into being carried by the Rams. You surround a good QB with a good team, and they tend to see greater success.

I'll watch the game tomorrow with little to no difference versus any other Super Bowl. I'll be rooting for the Bengals due to the draft pick and liking Joe Burrow, but there's no reason for me to be emotionally invested (positively or negatively) for a guy who no longer plays here. I wish Stafford well, but he's gone and I'm not going to pretend that Detroit will either share in his success in any way or stand to gain by hating on him.

That basically sums up how I feel about the situation. If Stafford wins, it's not a "win" for Detroit and most likely has a better chance of people just saying "see...look how freaking dumb detroit is for letting him go!" The reality is that Stafford contributed a pretty good amount to the blunders over the years as well. It was almost a given that in any crucial game, he would come out slinging it 5 feet over the receiver's head and would be good for at least 2 turnovers. And I say this as a "supporter", I still have pics of Calvin and him hanging in my man cave.

Can anyone speak to the state of the hockey program at MSU? It's been a while since I've read about them. They still seem to get one guy drafted each year it seems.

I liked seeing Stafford do something great. He did a bunch right for the Lions and I’m glad he will get the daps for it now that he’s won a title.

I'm actually surprised at how much I don't care that he won it. I was pulling hard for the bengals because it was a much better story to me. If the Rams dont fall off the rails next season, then the Lions basically traded Stafford away for Jared Goff, 2 2nd rounds picks and a 3rd rd comp pick. Which would be the most Lionsesque result possible for your best QB in 50 years.

He wanted out. The Lions actually did right by a guy and you're looking to complain about it. I mean, I understand shitting on the Lions because they're the Lions but come on, man.
