Do the Lions have a single "good" player? Seriously asking, I don't watch them and only keep casual tabs on them. I do have them in my "Bad QB" fantasy league this season, and Goff has been great for me. But he seems to literally have no help either. And I'm not sure I recognize a single name on our defense.

Regardless, it is an amazing level of mismanagement of this organization. Sustained for so long, and seemingly bottoming out at a point where they should have been able to build something decent by now. Truly remarkable.

Go Stafford lol.

D’Andre Swift has looked legitimately good for the Lions this year. Ragnow is out but is an All-Pro caliber center. Hockenson feels like a good pass catching tight end in an offense with a shit quarterback and a shit passing game.

People seem to think Decker is a good LT, and Sewell will eventually be a good bookend tackle.

Defensively, you have Tracy Walker who looks to becoming a decent safety. One, maybe two decent edge rushers in Romeo and Julian Okwara.

Jack Fox might be the best punter in the league this year…

I miss the Wayne Fontes era. Prime Barry and they could at least contend in the NFC Norris.

But for a league that parity reigns, it is irritating that the Lions can be this bad for so long. But that's the power of the Fords, nice people to work for apparently, but not good at hiring good football people. Even Mike Ilitch knew when to fold and get hockey/baseball people, and baseball is crapshoot to draft well in (although throw enough money at the wall usually does something).

Ragnow is probably the best at his position in the league, Hockenson a top 5 tight end, Swift is really good, Sewell and Decker are both at the very least good. Jonah Jackson is very solid as well. On defense, its tougher lol..Tracy Walker and Romeo Okwara are both very legit. Their issue is they only have 2 guys who would be considered elite at their position (Ragnow and Hockenson), and they have the worst qb in the league. With Stafford right now theyre probably right around 500

No. No they do not. This is an appropriate reaction to seeing the roster.

...Jack Fox is a good punter

I hear complaining of an overpay for Rodriguez. But is it a potentially calculated overpay that can "even itself out"?

MLBTR estimated his contract to be 5y/$ 70m, Fangraphs guess was in the 4y/$ 80m-ballpark. I don't see any overpay at all; Rodriguez will be in his early-thirties when the contract ends, which is not old for a pitcher. Teams are said to value 1 WAR at $ 8m and Rodriguez should be projected to perform above a 2 WAR threshold over these five years.

Even if it were an overpay, the Tigers were able to sign a main pillar of their future rotation early. I think this is a very good signing overall. Avila managed to keep up the positive vibes!

Even if it is an overpay, the Tigers are looking at Boyd and Turnbull (at some point) both coming back from surgery this year. Yeah, we have Mize and Skubel but they're entering just their second year. Manning, Faedo, etc. would be rookies. Fulmer's a reliever now. They could go out and grab something from the bargain bin, but we've seen what we get from that.

The Tigers needed a guy who could be reasonably expected to step in as at least a #3 to take some of the weight off the kids and to let a couple of other guys come back from injuries without having to be the guy out the gate. And $15m a year isn't a huge cost, especially with how few big contracts are on the Tigers books and how cost controlled this team is going to be for the next several years. Good signing by Avila.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but this dude is one of the more overrated pitchers in baseball. Always hyped, always under-performs. Always "unlucky." Talented enough to spin the occasional gem, but otherwise inconsistent with a bloated WHIP that seems to tell a more accurate story than his analytics that always say he's better than he actually is. I mean, if we get him cheap, or for a smaller role than he's used to, I'm fine with it. But I know that's not the case. I just hope it's not for too much term.

EDIT: I see now 5 years, $77M. I hate it.

I'm happy with it. $15M AAV isn't bad. I would've been more skeptical in the pre-Hinch era when Al was running the show. I trust Hinch/Menzin/Sartori and Fetter should help.

Yeah I hope I'm wrong on EdRod, for sure. I've just really disliked this guy (the player, not the person) for a long time, so I'm admittedly biased, and when I first saw the rumor I was like, "ah jeez, why's it have to be this guy?"

Hopefully he turns me into a believer.

Does he mean Rodriguez or the SS savior? Today the Tigers have definitely embarked onto a new phase and my excitement level is way up already...

well it wouldn't be Rodriguez since it says "one more" and this is from hours after that signing

could also be Verlander I suppose since there were some rumors of him signing somewhere soon

When is this Killian Hayes experiment going to end?

Yeah he’s still young but I don’t really see him growing. And he just can’t shoot the ball. It would be one thing if he averaged like 15 assists a game but.

Meh.

He still hasn't played half of a full NBA season. By that time is when we should really re-evaluate. And in the meantime we should really set our expectations.
