Would have to be an upgrade for the Flames to consider trading him. Flames need skill with size in their top 6. So you'd have to trade a young winger who's big and has some potential to make them consider it. And I don't see a team giving that up for Ferland.

Sadly your right. Hawks main deficiency is at forward and the team would probably rather deal from defense or draft to get a forward.

Thanks for the honest opinion though

Ferland is the only forward on Calgary's roster who can forecheck the puck on a dump-in with actual results. I don't think we want to be trading him.

Chiasson has been positive as well as older Ham Bro to the eye test, anyways. Sam's been okay too.

But yeah, most of the team isn't really great at it.

He could definitely be available, but I can't imagine any team would give up what the Flames would want for him. Not saying his value is high or anything, it's just that he fills a need right now.

His value is higher to the Flames than anyone else, but for the Flames to move him, I’d say a late 1st gets it done at the trade deadline if his play continues.

His play has been fantastic for playoff hockey.

No one is gonna move a late 1st for Ferland.

With that being said, he's much more valuable to the flames than anyone else.

If the Flames somehow got a 1st for him, I'd build a shrine for Treliving. No chance he'd land a 1st. A 3rd, maybe.

Obsession with draft picks.. Lol

Ferland is one of the few solid forwards the Flames have. Trading him for anything less that a solid roster player in return makes no sense. Even a late first has a 1/6 chance of being an impact player. We have lots of prospects we need solid NHL players, which Ferland is.

Benning is really fond of Ferland. Would a Brendan Gaunce swap work?

That seems like something Benning/Weisbrod would do.

Just curious, what would it take to get Hjalmarsson? He'd be the perfect partner for Hamilton.

Giordano-Brodie
Hjalmarsson-Hamilton, ooo that's going to be a sweet dream.

Until (or unless) his offence starts translating better (he does have soft hands - there is hope of that), teams aren't going to be willing to give up what Calgary would be asking.

He is the proverbial "Worth more to the team than other teams are willing to give up" type. Guys like him who do a lot of things well, but aren't hitting the stat sheet just don't really return much. Flames could use another Ferland to be honest - this team needs a bit more physicality.

Bennett.

Hjammer is a top pairing defensmen signed at 4.1 million on an already cap straped team. For hjalmarsson to leave the hawks it would have to be for an absolutely crazy return.

Also, though he is a lhd he plays almost exclusively on the right side

Hjarlmarsson for Ferland + Eng/Bouma + 3rd?

No.

No.

I might get killed for this, but I wouldn't mind offering Tkachuk for Hjalmarsson, but not Bennett.

That's not close.

Hjalmarsson is the best defensive defenseman in the game.

I fixed it for you. Yes for pure defensive reasons I'd take Hjalmarsson over Vlasic, and oilbear don't come in with your HSDCA stats, as Crawford is the Oprah of secondary chances, and Hjalmarsson faces far tougher competition. Oh and from a pure defensive standpoint, Braun is slightly better than Keith, and far better than Oduya.

Maybe a Lateral Move with the Canucks?
Virtanen for Ferland? Balance it out with picks.
Flames and Canucks like to give eachother reclamation projects.

As a Canucks fan I almost barfed but then I thought well damn. Ferland is playing what we expect Virtanen to be like. Obviously the fantasy is to have Virtanen score a lot more to justify being picked ahead of Nylander and Ehlers. But honestly, Virtanen isn't even playing the same level of hockey as Ferland is. You don't need more AHL seasoning to understand to crash, bang, forcheck and turn pucks over for your more talented linemates.

Ferlands not a reclamation project.

He's young, aggressive, has good hands and is home grown, his actual value? 2nd rd pick maybe, but what it would ACTUALLY take to get him is a different story. The management/Burke love him, and so do the fans. I don't think there's any interest in dealing him.

I've been impressed with his game so far this year. Looks far more engaged and consistently noticeable. He's got a 20 goal scorers shot and can hit like a bull. I wouldn't trade him right now for anything like than a potential #4 or #5 defenseman
