Good on Bunting that he's going to do this, even though he was right in the moment after what happened. Although maybe in the future it will mean he gets the benefit of the doubt if he gets a stick in the face and is bleeding because of that, which would result in him drawing more power plays.

No idea what upside he thinks there is yelling, screaming, and trying to show up the refs in front of the cameras on a nightly basis.

Last time I checked he doesn't wear a letter and shouldn't be saying, much less screaming, anything to the refs, regardless of whether it involves him or not.

I don’t think he owes them any such apology. But such is the sad state of officiating in the NHL, that he knows they will hold his entirely justified outburst against him if he doesn’t fall in line. And honestly, they may even still hold it against him despite his apology

Reverse psychology. Now the refs won't give him a call because they don't want people to think the apology is why he's getting favorable calls. It might take a game or two for the effect to wear off; or, I'm just making up crap on the fly.

So the refs f*** up (probably intentionally) multiple times, player gets mad, and player apologizes ?

Same logic actually as certain players play crappy, coach whips them, players whine(there's that player who consults with management theory), GM gets peeved and orders Coach to not only never do that again to his boys, but to go out to the presser and apologize to the team for perhaps you know being the coach and telling his players that they need to put their big boy pants on, toughen up and earn the millions that are pouring into some of their bank accounts! or sumpin like that:naughty:

Everyone has a limit and it must be frustrating to know the league has an obvious agenda against you and your team. I'm sure he'd act differently if on a failing US team.

What's rather remarkable is that Matthews was benched a game for calling out Keefe in media, saying they need to play to win, not play to not lose, and questioning the Pre-Game scouting, and exactly one year later to the date Keefe makes his infamous "soft and purposeless" comment and had to dial them back.

Shows how much can change in such short time. Matthews was instrumental in getting Babcock fired, and now he appears to have the upper hand on Keefe too.

It's a lot easier to replace a coach than it is to replace a 60 goal scorer and Matthews knows that.

Wow, when did you dream this?

I truly feel sorry for you.

I'd be pretty incenced if I was drawing only half the penalties I was entitled to.

Matthews was never benched, so why are you making something up that's 100% false?

Oh, from a blog guy with no insight, no links to players, no contacts, and is a pure opinion blog site.

At least it explains everything.....tooth fairy and Santa are real too.

I'm starting to feel sorry for you.

You tell me to follow a new favourite team, but it doesn't appear you even follow this one yourself.

Who's the bigger fan here isn't a question I wish to get into, but I would advise you to do some more research into your favorite team before questioning another posters fanship.

Yes. You're right. Pure speculation based on what facts were facts were available.

Kristen Shelton and Justin Cuthbert are unreliable sources of information too I'm sure, which is the sources the author provides.

The official reason Matthews didn't play was because he was too sore.

Too sore. To play. One game.

One game.

But you're right. It's clearly coincidental. I must be reading too much into the article written by an author reading too much into what Kristen Shelton and Justin Cuthbert said.

Matthews was just to sore to play that game and it was coincidence it just so happened to be the very next game after he made those comments.

Nothing to see here

I sometimes dream about what the Leafs would get back, the cupboards would be full to the brim

If Knies joins the team and makes any kind of impact at all any kind, that fills a huge hole

From what I've been seeing so far this year, I think Willie is almost ready to take on a centres role full time,

Fraser Minten although 2-3 years away, is playing like a man and looks like with a little spit and polish at the A level that he might be a really well rounded 3C

The Leafs have some real options

If Keefe really benched Matthews because of some comments, do you really think he would still be the Leafs coach today?

Since he had wrist surgery that offseason and missed the first three games of the 2021-22 season, I'm sure that was the reason he missed that one game in January 2021.

There was another game Matthews missed in the 2021 season against Edmonton on March 1, 2021 because of his wrist, so what do you have to say about that?

When someone like Bunting gets a stick in the face during multiple games and no penalties on those plays were called, it's times like that when the ref who missed the call or someone from the NHL needs to come out with an explanation why that happened.
