Is Jakob Chychrun the answer to our defensive needs?

No one understands here fully but single best move Leafs could make right now is remove Holl from top 6 .. big addition by subtraction .. of course not Jakob level upgrade but still our defense gets better ASAP by putting Lily in for Holl .. it kinda p*sses me off that Dubie just won't do it .. Holl is not talented enough pure and simple .. and he is not trained properly in defensive play

Dubas can't do it he isn't the coach

Anytime you can get better in any area you should.

But also Holl needs to be fired into the sun.

Beyond that they are 1, MAYBE 2 injuries away from Rubins playing and that's not OK.

I think Rubins got Holl'd his last time out.
Holl tried to do Rubins' job and ended up doing no ones job.

I doubt very much the Coyotes are even entertaining retaining for another 3 years on any player.

Leafs should check into Valimaki. He isn't happy, and it wasn't expected Killington would take a job this year.

I'm guessing the ask would be huge. Guaranteed they want Knies thrown into Sandin, Robertson/Amirov and a pick. Will decimate the teams future.

It just makes a lot more sense to target a lower cost #4 rhd. A guy that maybe costs a pick and a decent-ish prospect for that can play on the second pairing

I have little interest in throwing assets away for a team that hasn't proven itself worthy.

Hard to evaluate players on that team.

Miller used to be an advanced stats God a few years back but that was oh so long ago now

He's a worse Gardiner, with the brain farts and stupidity

Four pieces might be too much. I was thinking Sandin + 1st + Robbie but the kid from Zona might interest them. I'd give them Sandin and Knies if they took Holl (ideal for Leafs) or a pick that is not a first if they refuse to take Holl.

Giordano could come cheap and fits middle to bottom 4 if you're willing to overlook the rhd part....

Because of the cap, NMC/NTC's, strong left side & the risk of shaking what seems like a close-knit group, I don't see it.

Despite being a left shot D though, he's exactly the type of player (& contract) Dubas should kick tires. Love Sandman but he'd likely be the primary piece of such deal. All depends on price but it helps that Chychrun is having an off year & is owed much more than his remaining cap hit.

I've seen Chychrun play right side on a lot of OZ draws, anyone have an idea of how good he is on the right side? I could see all Rielly, Muzzin, & Chychrun on the left side with Chychrun getting extra shifts on the right side & special units.

Someone posted in this thread that he apparently played the right side in junior. I think this righty lefty stuff is overblown way too much, if you are good on the left , you don't become dog food on the right side. Brodie is a lefty and he's a great defender with Morgan, who is a lefty too. When Brodie played with Muz (who is a lefty) they looked great together. I think the big thing for righty lefty is in the offensive zone you have to position yourself differently, you have to be a spilt second quicker with your decision making, am I shooting, am I passing, am I dumping into the corner, makes it a little more awkward but a guy like Jacob should have very few issues with playing 2nd pairing D with Jake.

Lol @ comparing playing on the right side in the GTHL (8 years ago) to doing the same thing at the NHL level. Not an issue.
Dermy did same thing .. for D with great mobility and hands it is not as big a deal as many on here make it out to be .. yes it is an issue for many guys like Muzzy and Holl and even Rielly cause they don't have same lateral mobility AND they never played right side so they don't understand positioning nuances to making and receiving passes .. it is just not an issue for either Jakob or Dermy

What it would take to trade for Chychrun I don’t think you do that just to hope he can play the right side.

We got eliminated for multiple reasons but one of them was our best young defender got blown by twice for game losing goals against .. now I blame coach for dressing him when he was clearly not ready .. and it is extremely unlikely that Sandin will fix his short stride problem so bottom line is he will always be our slowest dman by a considerable distance in races

Matthews, Marner and Tavares combined for a grand total of 1 goal in a 7 game series, yet some are focused on things that happen to all dmen.

right side was never an issue for Rielly in the fairly short stint he played there.

All-round I think it's a little overblown but still important, he obviously wouldn't become dog food on the right side but you'd want to get the most out of each defenseman still. I didn't agree with Babcock's extreme emphasis on right/lefty for Canada's Olympic teams, especially when it came to picking the #7 & #8.

I think playing on your offside always has certain advantages too (ex. greater one timer option, walking the line, easier switching sides throughout play or shift-to-shift, chipping off the glass, etc...), but the disadvantages usually outweigh them.

Does matter more when it's one of your top D
