Merry Christmas, is dubas shopping for a top four D-man? Is Jakob Chychrun a Leaf trade target?

Rumors around multiple websites have the Leafs interested in Jakob Chychrun

Is he someone you would want in our top four? it might be a steep price, asking price is apparently a 1st, 2nd, roster player (dman - think Holl/ Dermott) and a good prospect (Robertson, Amirov, etc.)

I think the price would be too high, and rightly so. Even a 1st + 2nd + Robertson wouldn't likely be the best offer Arizona can get.

And then there's the cap. His cap hit is very team friendly, sure. But who goes to fit him in? I don't see how it's possible.

I would be interested but don’t think we will like what their asking price will be.

If we were to trade for him I would guess Sandin would be one of the pieces going the other way.

I just don't see the fit. Adding him to the left side of the blueline results in either having an expensive d-man on the bottom pairing, or boxing Sandin in on that pairing over a long term. The right side of the blueline might be slightly less certain in comparison, but...

Nothing against him, but I don't like what the rightful asking price would be, nor does it address our most glaring need, which is a top4 RHD.

I hate the thought of having to move Sandin, Robertson, and a 1st for a 24 year old who has had 2 knee surgeries and will require all kinds of salary cap gymnastics, while we lose low cost ELC's and pipeline talent..... and again, he still doesn't fill our RHD needs.

I would think with Sandin coming up, and Rielly locked up, LHD looks good moving forward.

I woulldn't even think of it. If you are going to give up significant assets, you do it to fill a glaring hole, one we have had for several years now. If you are going to pay that price, you fill it and put it to rest. Adding him doesn't do any of that, and it costs us assets we could use to get away from band-aid solutions here.

Hard no from me.

Again, beating a dead horse, but if we had gone harder for Weegar when Dubas was talking to Florida about him, we would be laughing our behinds off right now.......

If you could pull a steal and involve no young D it would be fun knowing your future was Rielly, Liljegren, Sandin, Chychrun sprinkled with Brodie etc.

Kinda where my mind was going too, Muzzin is getting old in the tooth, with his injury history he might have a couple of good years ahead of him. With the way he's playing this year , perhaps we are seeing the start of decline of a very good dman

It's been mentioned by a few posters but I think Scott Mayfield makes a lot of sense if the Islanders are willing to let him go. He checks all the boxes, big Top 4 RHD who has a lot of playoff experience, cheap cap hit with another season left on it.

Rielly - Brodie
Sandin - Mayfield
Muzzin - Liljegren

Rolling 3 very good D pairings with that imo. I don't think Josh Manson will be available now that the Ducks look to have turned the corner with their young talent.

Actually, and I could be wrong, but even though Weegar is a rightie, I believe he prefers to play the left side

The trick would be getting Chychrun without giving up a core piece or one of the best young assets.

But I'm sure some team would beat it.

But hey for fun...

I'd aim higher than Mayfield but if you consider Mayfield better than Holl you've got to consider it.

What about renting someone like Klingberg, Stralman, Colin Miller, Manson?

I’ve thought about Stralman too, I haven’t watched him play in a while though so I’m not sure where his games at at this point and if he would even be an upgrade. Probably wouldn’t cost much to acquire.

Chychrun played on the right side exclusively in his junior career.

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Chychrun
Sandin-Lily

If you can make it happen with picks and Amirov/Robertson and cap I say go for it.

We don't have the assets to bring him in. Someone else would almost certainly outbid us. We also don't have the cap space.

We are stacked with left side d men. I like Chychrun and I think he would be a decent powerplay option too with his shot but I just dont really see the point.

Our 1st round pick is needed as we didnt pick last year. Amirov and Robertson are going to be very important for us, we need cheap talent.
