Media needs to give Stolarz a break

Since Saturday's loss, all I have been reading online and all morning today on the Fan590 they been speaking of how Stolarz could be replaced by Woll for Tuesday's game. I believe that media really needs to give Stolarz replacement talk a break and a completed halt.

We are up 3 games to 1 because of him. We only took that game on Saturday to overtime and almost to a second overtime because of him. Did he let a soft goal in for the winner? Yes. Was he fully screened as Ullmark was on Benoit's winner? Yes. Does he deserved to be benched because of it? No.

Media has a tendency to make a whole lot of something out of nothing. This is Toronto's media problem from the beginning of time. If it wasn't running Larry Murphy out of town, making more of the Muskoka clan during the Sundin era, causing more issues then it needed to be with the whole Marner/Babcock fiasco, or the Matthews going to Arizona. Ultimately, bringing this crap up at a time where we need our team focused and more importantly our most important player Stolarz focused is plain stupid.

Media needs to stop talking crap and focus on the positives this team has show so far. Want to know why we lost game 4. Not Stolarz, the inability to score on a 4 minute penalty in overtime. The game was there for the taking, and what if Tavares wasnt injured just prior? Do we win the game? Maybe that should be topic of discussion. How the Leafs PP stinks without Tavares in it and Marner running the point instead of Reilly with those players?

Toronto media is a joke, and sometime some people just need to focus on the issue(s) rather then raising phantom ones when this team does need that bad hype at a specific time.

When you think of it from the viewpoint that they just want clicks, it makes much more sense.

I ignore virtually every article except recaps (if I didn't watch a game but care about the outcome) and the odd one focused entirely on technical/statistical analysis ("Why Toronto's Power Play Is So Lethal" - I made that one up).

If you go by the logic of this board, Woll is the better playoff goalie and since the game changes so much (it doesn't), he should probably play.

It always surprises me how much some of the people on this board change their opinion from player to player.

But ya, Stolarz has earned a longer leash, he has been really good this year and is a big part of the reason why the series is 3-1.

They need to give everyone a break, sweet lord. It's insane reading all these Monday morning doom and gloom articles when we're up 3-1 and everything appears to be working and no one is taking nights off. It's OK to say we're right where we want to be at the moment.

Every goalie has bad games in a post season. And Stolarz didn’t have a bad game. He maybe could have stopped that shorty but the others were not ones that you’d say he should have stopped.

The OT Goal wasn't very good.

Carlo blocked his view. Lundqvist was on the panel the other night and he said he would tell his dmen to let him see the shooter and not block his view even if they are trying to get to their man

Our entire game plan is to let the other team get prime chances and have three players trying to play goal it appears, so that is a Berube issue, not a goalie issue.

The one timer was not great, should have had that.

TO media is the largest anti-leaf force in the league.

TO media has always been a joke .. but don't worry it is all about these guys getting their hits and attention .. these guys need SOMETHING to talk about don't forget .. I don't even bother to listen anymore for years now .. just put on some music you like in da car .. that is best thing you can do is not pay any attention at all

This is why goalies never succeed in Toronto. One bad game after 11 game win streak and a 0.950 sv% and people start calling for the goalies head.

Ridiculous

Stolarz will start game 5.

But the conversation is happening because the media needs to talk about something. The team is mostly playing just fine, and the goaltending was one of the only things that wasn't great in game 4. So what else should they talk about? And the conversations I've heard/read certainly haven't been critical of Stolarz. No "calling for his head". Just suggesting a change.

And Toronto is lucky enough to have a 2nd goalie capable of starting playoff games. So it's much easier to suggest a goalie change when that means Woll instead of Calvin Pickard or Anton Forsberg. Having 2 good goalies always invites media/fan discussion of a "goalie controversy" because there's lots of supporters for both tenders.

Again, Stolarz will rightly start game 5. But it's not some big insult to suggest a goalie change.

I think we pay way too much attention to what the media is saying. We’re not like other teams where there is one or two options to listen to. If you want leaf content there are many options.

If leafs have a bad game it’s not just one show talking about it, it’s over 10 shows. Obviously the topic after last game is goaltending.its a fair criticism but at the same time from what I’ve listened no one is saying not to start him. It’s just the same conversation over multiple shows. Each show isn’t going to say okay only we talk about Stolarz you find something else to talk about.

He definitely deserves to be cut some slack. He wasn't at his best last game but he has bounced back all season.

TO media being TO media. Stolarz wasn't at his best, but wasn't at his worst either. It happens.

Like Chief said, the bounces didn’t go our way.

A four minute PP opportunity is of far greater concern, than Stolarz.

It looked like his tracking was off for whatever reason; I’d chalk that up to a “bad bounce”.

Chief’s a different coach and whatever it is that clicks for this club to switch on to repeating all the good they did, but with last change - I think we’re in good shape.

The media’s take away should be that at our worst, we’ve never looked like we were out of the series.

When you see the media do shit like this, you remember why few players ever want to stay here...

75% of our media AND fans (sorry) - have NO idea what they are watching.
