JT is owed 16.5m over the next 3 years.

5.5m for an 80 point #1C is desirable.

He's just not a #1C here because Matthews is better and gets the favorable zone starts...as he should.

His cap hit is insane and he's not going to wave the no movement to go to Arizona dude.

Trading him is a candy land concept

Its pretty clear from the interviews today that anything short of perhaps missing the playoffs (without a valid reason), is an acceptable ending to each season with all jobs safe, and minor changes around the edges coming.

Leafs were 4th overall last year and it meant nothing come playoff time even with home ice advantage.
4th overall and played the 7th overall team in round 1.
I listened to all three gentleman’s answers today and that’s not at all what I took from it, what are people expecting? Banging fists on the desk and demanding change?

Will we give up Nies, Bunting and Nylander for Hellebuyck and Scheifele?
Willy + mrazek + sandin/Robertson + Holl/kerf
Schief + Helle

He’s not positive value, but he’s not negative value that costs a lot to move off of . He’ll be involved in a deal for a starter as the money going back, or unloaded to a team who misses out on the other goalie options, there’s not a lot this summer out there.
He’s a proven playoff goalie who has won multiple rounds in the post season before. One unlucky season here where he never got out the gate uninsured doesn’t erase a decade of track record.
Im not suggesting those two pieces straight up, there would be additions thus the plus.
He’s 3 games under .500 in his playoff career, and has a .909 career save percentage. Andersen has better numbers and was run out of town.

Willy has two years left, and it’s all but assured he wouldn’t sign in Winnipeg. He’s a Broadway or LA guy, not a Winnipeg guy.

If the Leafs wanted Scheif and Helle, and were offering Willy and Mrazek, there would be a big add for the Leafs, starting with a first and going from there. Unless Chevy is looking to get gassed.

I don't expect them to come out and say what their exact plan is for the off-season, but they have come out for the 4th offseason in a row and said the same crap. I'm actually quite disappointed in their message.

From the way they made it sound, they are quadrupling down on this team's core. It's almost like their challenging the group to not lose in the same fashion next year, but hope they grow just a bit.

At some point, this fanbase is going to turn apathetic to the same old message.

I would have liked to hear that, this group is talented, but we think it's time to try different dynamics throughout the team. You don't have to say names. Just that we're not going to tolerate zero growth in results. I didn't get that feeling and I feel like they're going to sign the barrel guys hoping they can make a difference.
Not making changes for the sake of changes doesnt mean they won't make trades if it makes sense.

I think having Trotz available is something Dubas and Shanny needs to look at bc it is an upgrade to Keefe.
From the comments, I don't see how that contradict approaching Trotz.
If there is a deal or two that makes the Leafs better, I think Dubas and Shanny will pull the trigger instead of playing it safe like the last two seasons.

Definitely not Arizona, no and I’m not suggesting that they will do this, but nmc’s at the end of the day only protect the player as far as allowing them to choose their next spot. If management decides with either muzz or JT that it’s time to cut bait it’ll happen. At the end of the day these a proud men and would be unwilling to be where they’re unwanted.

The Leafs’s battle cry is “Stay The Course” mates. We’re in good hands with Shanny, Dubas and Keefe.
The Leafs have been outscored 18-6 while losing do-or-die games in four straight playoff series. Toronto mustered just two goals in the last three winner-take-all affairs. When you spell it out like that is looks as bad as it comes across.

However what I learned today from the interviews is management is happy with the progress, only disappointed with the result.

The Devil is in the details... Apparently Leafs were playing back on their heels in previous series clinching games in past years, and this year they were up on their toes and more involved, so that is being sold as major difference despite the same end results. Falling behind by 2 or 3 goals and not giving up earned management and the core players more opportunities to try again.

Keefe got destroyed by Cooper in media p.r. for however important that is, and predicting a violent series was a really dumb thing for Keefe to say. As if the league needed more of an incentive, that was an invitation to penalize us more. Next time, he needs to shut up.

If there's a way to get Hellebuyck here, gotta look at it.

You're right on, you never show your cards in a war...guy needs to read "Art of War" by Sun Tzu...keep the enemy guessing and in the dark...players also get the wrong message, as we know too well what happened to Clifford and Simmonds - a suspension for Clifford and multiple penalties for Simmonds - so much so that Keefe had to eat his words and sit them the rest of the playoffs because league and refs were also keeping Keefe accountable.

I think I said right from the hop that there was a plus and maybe two required. He’s still won rounds in the post season and has carried a team to the conference finals. At 3.8 that’s not completely untradable.
Also lol no one is a Winnipeg guy over being LA or NY guys, cmon now

I think if there is any deals involving Willy and Petr to Jets for Helle and whoever, that whoever will be Wheeler.
I still think its worth it bc of Helle

Tampa has scored 6 goals in their last four series clinching games.

Tavares is also too proud to play out his days on a shithole squad.

His cap hit is such that it is going to be what is required because the good teams don't have room.

The nmc definitely protects the player from being traded if they don't want to. JT isn't going to waste the rest of his career in buffalo to throw the team a favor dude.

Btw mrazek has a 10 team trade list as well so look forward to getting taken to the cleaners to get rid of that deal also

Imagine what Kyle can do with 11.346m in cap space shopping at Walmart.

Matthews knows we're the only team that'll give him like 20 mil a year

Matthews loves it in Toronto and his best friend Marner does also. If this team should win Round 1 of the playoffs next season or the season thereafter, Auston will remain a Leaf. He has so many endorsements that Arizona cannot offer him.
It's not just Arizona that would want Matthews. Every big market American team would be after him. the Rangers or LA would do virtually anything to get him.

No one’s suggesting buffalo or Arizona, but he was willing to meet with other clubs at the time of FA so it wasn’t leafs or nothing to him, I’m also not suggesting that they’re going to push him out, just that it’s a possibility if they see fit to do so.

Dubas clearly navigated it too................ our team got better with the stagnated cap.

Disagree with his philosophy all you want, but the other part is wrong.

I also happen to agree with his philosophy, that you pay your stars and everyone around them can be worked in.

We'd have the useless Hyman with an old-school GM I think, and that contract will be an anchor.
Did the "team" get better or was it that Matthews, Marner and Nylander reached their potential? and by result the team was better.

It's always a wait and see.

Let's see what happens in September. Let's see what happens on opening night. Let's see what happens by Christmas. Let's see what happens by the trade deadline. Let's see what happens in the playoffs. Let's see what happens in game 2. Let's see what happens in game 3. Let's see what happens in game 4. Let's see what happens in game 5. Let's see what happens in game 6. Let's see what happens in game 7. Let's see what happens at the press conference. Let's see what happens July 1st. Let's see what happens by September.

We've seen. We've seen it so many times. We've seen enough. We get called "not real fans". We should go follow the Kraken.

For the love of all that is f***ing holy, we've seen. I promise you, we've seen.
Well other than removing management they can’t really do anything today.
I half expected that Dubas would have come out and announced that Keefe was relieved.
That’s the biggest change needed.

I appreciate your creativity. I would love the deal, it’s just not realistic. You’d be adding a lot more. Chevy isn’t taking our shit for two prime pieces (minus Willy of course).

My point is Willy isn’t going to sign in Winnipeg when he hits FA. They’d be getting him for two years and giving up two massive pieces of their franchise.

Right now, if I am in the Leafs front office, you are going for it in the next three years. In the summer of 2026, you want to make sure you have enough cap space to make your run at you-know-who when he hits FA. Oddly enough, JTs contract expires the year before.

Hey then you could all hold hands and sing kumbaya. Talk about being elite and staying the course for what 3-4 more years?

This is a hobby. Its not that serious, Champ .

If I dont like something anymore, I dont hang around and try to make other people as miserable as I am

The Leafs should not trade Matthews, Marner and Tavaris. But i would trade Nylander for two good big power forwards that drive to the net, go to the dirty area in front of the net and raise hell in front of it. This team needs to stop trying to score the pretty goals and get in the trenches and score some dirty goals.

On paper, the team was better.

The team has improved on paper every year, especially the D.

That was golden when Simmons interrupted Shanahan and said "I'm not sure where you're getting your history from. No team has won a Stanley Cup after losing 5 straight 1st round series." Shanahan had an epic fail trying to dance around that zinger.

100% correct, "Dubas" team has reached higher regular season heights based on the growth (expected) of the young stars and superstars he inherited. His job was suppose to find value and insulate them so this team could actually achieve something.......he has failed over and over again in this exercise.
