Certainly not cutting his teeth on a supposedly championship-caliber team. Kind of like investing tens of millions of dollars into producing the very best F1 car then turn around and give the keys to a rookie driver in the hope that 10 years from now, when he learns how to drive, they'll win a race.
Umm... Thats actually pretty how much F1 works.
A driver develops in your program, they might spend a year or 2 on your jr team before being promoted to the top team.
They are not world champions by the time they are promoted to the top team. You think they have the potential to be a top driver and the join your main team and continue to develop there.
Keefe wasn't some random guy sitting on a couch that the Leafs hoped would learn how to coach over 20 years.
