Exactly.
Certainly not cutting his teeth on a supposedly championship-caliber team. Kind of like investing tens of millions of dollars into producing the very best F1 car then turn around and give the keys to rookie driver in the hope that 10 years from now, when he learns how to drive, they'll win a race.
You guys just don't get it because you have watched hockey for so long.......Dennis Malgin was acquired because he reminds Dubas so much of Nick Patan who is extremely similar to Jeremy Bracco who might at best become Kerfoot who is a passable 3rd line winger who does not drive any line he plays on.
That is how you "change the game", set out to acquire small, soft, wingers who are not skilled enough to be skilled players in the NHL, but are completely useless in a bottom 6 role to surround your already small and lacking physicality top end players who do produce.
Thinking more about it, I think it's because of the no-shows we've had in game 7s in the past. For instance, in 2021 vs MON we looked scared all game long and didn't give a solid effort. This year, the boys actually played and tried to generate but couldn't do it (due to being boxed out)
And for some reason, that's fine with people. Us as Leaf fans are so conditioned to losing horribly that a "normal" loss is now something to be fine with. Just shows you how far off this team is from anything successful

I know that this is all PR 101 and take what these people say with a grain of salt. But after 6 straight years of this I think it’s fair for people to expect to at least hear something a little different.
It’s appropriate to put some heat on the players, accountability, own the losses and failures.
This surprises anybody on here? Too many of the posts on here for years have been 20/20 hindsight/defeatist/conspiracy/i know better because I did on my NHL video game GM mode
Of course a presser like this is going to be loaded with cliche - why would it be any different? No sensible management group/GM would publicly call out their players to national media - especially in a place like Toronto.
It doesn't surprise me, I'm just trying to be the voice of reason to balance out the people that can't control their emotions. I'm not the only one, glad to see that anyway.
Of course the presser's are always cliche, I've been saying that before they start every year and I never watch. I catch some clips on the 24 hour news channel and that's it.
Considering a few of us have been spot on since the Dubas hired, "they will never win a playoff series if they make Dubas GM." My prediction for next year that all my haters don't care about, and write this down, Leafs will be life and death to make the playoffs. If they make the playoffs, an even earlier exit.
A few posters here were saying that we'd be a bubble team this season as well and after our poor start, their numbers went up exponentially. I said if even after our poor start and I'll say it again now, and write this down, the Leafs will cruise to the playoffs.
Where the hell did this "we lost well" narrative begin? Game 7 looked JUST like the final games against Columbus and Montreal. The PP was an atrocity and the team was boxed out to the perimeter all game. Is it just because Tampa is a better team, so we're more accepting of the usual nonsense?
This isn't true, just because we spent 20 minute circling the perimeter doesn't mean we were the better team by a "good margin". High danger chances were equivalent and we barely won the %xGF battle 52 to 48. This is including this big "3rd period push" we were supposed to make.
Tampa knew how to play us. Keep it to the perimeter and block every shot possible. We couldn't counter it, just like we couldn't in years past. The reason I say someone will do this to us again next season is because its been done to us 3 years in a row now. CBJ gave the league the playbook
I don't know where you're getting your numbers from but these are the game 7 numbers from moneypuck and they say the Leafs played great in game 7. I only share these numbers because they match what I saw - Vasi played amazing and stole the game for them.
The bar for me in the playoffs has always been the same - play your asses off and leave it all out there.
We failed in 2018 when we played listlessly and got dominated 4-0 in the 3rd period of game 7 by BOS.
We failed in 2019 when we played listlessly and got dominated in game 7 by BOS.
We failed in 2020 when we played listlessly and got dominated in game 5 by CLB.
We failed in 2021 when we played listlessly and got dominated in game 7 by MTL.
This year was the first year in a long time when I can't complain about how we played in game 7.
We had a very good regular season. I don't care about that much TBH, for a team like the Leafs that's a virtual lock for the playoffs it's nothing more than a 82 game warm up and our record in November means dick to me. I also don't care that we improved from 6-7th to 4th or whatever, it's not completely meaningless but the playoffs are where it's at, at least for me. Still, it was a good season.
We played well in the playoffs. Could have been better but I guess you can always say that. There's no shame in going down the way we did though, hopefully next season we have a better goaltending performance and do some dominating on our way to the finals.
Which is what the razors edge difference was between them and the 2x cup champs in a 7 game war. Their depth support, goaltending and pp & pk sealed the deal in crunch time.
It was a simple situation. Fortunate to be in the real NHL of 8-10 teams. The rest of the teams are practice.
We are good, we have x, but maybe we should consider y to ensure we have an extra edge to better odds we win in what will most likely be back and forth even series.
0/10 focusing on that y then coming back talking about respect. 82 games to work on y and another year they got cocky thinking the soft depth and coaching is good. Blackwell showed more heart than Engvall and mik combined but no adjustments made to bring him up for game 6 and 7 when it clear mik and engvall are finished for the series and won't do anything useful. All season to see we need a goalie, go off the board with names we don't know about even (the names we rumor about aren't the only names in play in reality, we don't know about > 90% of unspoken trade offers that happen year round), pay a little extra. Campbell only had one good month when you break it down properly.
And now they want respect? All they deserve is a slap. Do your jobs stop sitting on your ass expecting matthews and marner to do everything. They still need good things around them like some trevor moores and a good coach.

Even SJ and Ott have won multiple rounds. Eventually went to the finals too. The Leafs are more like Sacramento Kings when it comes to actual products and results.
True...but they never won it all and that used to be the goal here. They might be looking at getting to the finals as pretty much winning the cup with the way things have gone here lately.
I wouldn't say anything because if I failed at my job as much as Dubas and Keefe have failed at their jobs, there would be nothing to say because I wouldn't have a job because I'd be fired
Another prospect that might be close is Pontus Holmberg. They’re thinking a prospect or two will be on the team. Those ELC will help with navigating the cap. They need to figure out the goalie situation because it’s slim pickings in the free agency market and the guys the top guys will be signing for more than what Mrazek makes.
