This year they lost to a really good team
Last year they lost to a pretty bad team
The year before that they lost to a mediocre team

I'm not sure how you define blowing it up, but some significant changes need to be made either on the ice or off of it.
We just need to avoid good teams, mediocre teams, tough teams, good defensive teams, teams with a good goalie and Canadian teams and we'll be fine. Maybe Detroit?

The management group keeps pointing to the Detroit teams of the 90's and tampa as examples of it takes time to learn to win. They forget to mention Ottawa of the 2000's and San Jose of the 2010's that never did. It's not guaranteed to happen just because some other teams did figure it out long ago. A lot of other teams never did...we are looking like San Jose more than Detroit or Tampa.
Even SJ and Ott have won multiple rounds. Eventually went to the finals too. The Leafs are more like Sacramento Kings when it comes to actual products and results.

Where the hell did this "we lost well" narrative begin? Game 7 looked JUST like the final games against Columbus and Montreal. The PP was an atrocity and the team was boxed out to the perimeter all game. Is it just because Tampa is a better team, so we're more accepting of the usual nonsense?
I love it. That needs to be a T-shirt.

Change for the sake of change probably is needed, sorry Brendan. I don’t care who runs the team, coaches the team, plays for the team, I only care about the crest. I understand we had the best season we ever have had and played the cup champs but the sixth first round loss in the row means changes have to be made imho. Can’t keep running out the same team, hoping for better I don’t think. The process should definitely be past the first round right now.

Change for the sake of failing over and over
I had so much respect for Shanny as a player but what a weak executive

Lucky 7 or will 8 be too late? :sarcasm:

ya no, keefe and dubas are staying. 100%

Just hope they improve the roster a lot. They live in a fantasy world.

It will be Dubas' 3rd attempt at surrounding the core via the dumpster. He hit on 58 and 64, was close on Kase who everybody knew could not stay healthy and bombed miserably on 20 and 35. Good luck this summer Kyle.

He needs to find upgrades on Kerfoot, Mik and Engvall in terms of tenacity and he needs a 4th line that provides energy.

Oh yeah, and find us a fricken goalie that can stay healthy.

Shanny was fine until he fell into Dubas' spell. All I see if a fricken clown now.

I don't think keefe is a bad coach, but I find it dubious that he will be seen as a legendary coach 20 years from now. That's not really a good enough justification for keeping him on while coaches who are currently great are available

Exactly.
Certainly not cutting his teeth on a supposedly championship-caliber team. Kind of like investing tens of millions of dollars into producing the very best F1 car then turn around and give the keys to a rookie driver in the hope that 10 years from now, when he learns how to drive, they'll win a race.

Thinking more about it, I think it's because of the no-shows we've had in game 7s in the past. For instance, in 2021 vs MON we looked scared all game long and didn't give a solid effort. This year, the boys actually played and tried to generate but couldn't do it (due to being boxed out)

And for some reason, that's fine with people. Us as Leaf fans are so conditioned to losing horribly that a "normal" loss is now something to be fine with. Just shows you how far off this team is from anything successful

Both the Sens of the 2000s and San Jose of the 2010s made it to the finals though.

JT in decline, same with Muzzin, Simmonds will play again regardless, Jack probably walking, trying to get rid Mrazek's contract and find a 2nd goalie.....

You mean the guy half the size of Malkin and half the size of the guy we traded to Florida with not even half the grit?
You guys just don't get it because you have watched hockey for so long.......Dennis Malgin was acquired because he reminds Dubas so much of Nick Patan who is extremely similar to Jeremy Bracco who might at best become Kerfoot who is a passable 3rd line winger who does not drive any line he plays on.

That is how you "change the game", set out to acquire small, soft, wingers who are not skilled enough to be skilled players in the NHL, but are completely useless in a bottom 6 role to surround your already small and lacking physicality top end players who do produce.
