Where the hell did this "we lost well" narrative begin? Game 7 looked JUST like the final games against Columbus and Montreal. The PP was an atrocity and the team was boxed out to the perimeter all game. Is it just because Tampa is a better team, so we're more accepting of the usual nonsense?

I'm pretty sure Keefe said he wants to improve the special teams and Shanny and Dubas basically said they want the team to develop a killer instinct.

re: bolded....

This surprises anybody on here? Too many of the posts on here for years have been 20/20 hindsight/defeatist/conspiracy/i know better because I did on my NHL video game GM mode

Of course a presser like this is going to be loaded with cliche - why would it be any different? No sensible management group/GM would publicly call out their players to national media - especially in a place like Toronto.
How about saying "we will evaluate everything within the organization" or something along those lines. Shanny basically just gave Dubas and keefe a free pass....again

Considering a few of us have been spot on since the Dubas hired, "they will never win a playoff series if they make Dubas GM." My prediction for next year that all my haters don't care about, and write this down, Leafs will be life and death to make the playoffs. If they make the playoffs, an even earlier exit.

Without seeing what moves are made I can see next year going two ways. They implode and get an early round one exit or they explode and win the Stanley cup!

We're back to the country club where you can win nothing and wear Mickey Mouse shirts. Where you can over-step the coach and go right to the GM and ask for more minutes/a trade, because Dubas is a people-person

It looks like they did evaluate the last two days and said the best ppl to get this team to the next level is Dubas and Keefe, so they came out united.

We outplayed TB by a pretty good margin in game 7 and Vasi stole the game for them. Maybe someone will "do this to us again" next season but predicting that now is just a defeatist attitude.
This isn't true, just because we spent 20 minute circling the perimeter doesn't mean we were the better team by a "good margin". High danger chances were equivalent and we barely won the %xGF battle 52 to 48. This is including this big "3rd period push" we were supposed to make.

Tampa knew how to play us. Keep it to the perimeter and block every shot possible. We couldn't counter it, just like we couldn't in years past. The reason I say someone will do this to us again next season is because its been done to us 3 years in a row now. CBJ gave the league the playbook

Game 7 looked like DET vs ANA 2003. Detroit carried the play all series long but everything was from the perimeter. Difference was Giguere saved ANA while team defense saved TB.

I blame Dubas for:
1) Signing Marner after playing with Tavares and not before
2) not getting Marner + Matthews on 8 year deals
3) Waited a little too long on Matthews' deal
4) Kadri situation - there had to be a better way to work on this and not have a 2nd incident
5) not having enough toughness/play-off players in the top 6
6) not taking advantage of game management + our great special teams (we should have had a reputation as a rough/tough team and spent time perfecting obstruction)
7) Mrazek Contract is ridiculous, if you look at his past stats/contracts on capfriendly he seems to go on cycles of decent years + better contract then a shit contract for shit play.

I don't blame Dubas for:
1) frozen salary cap - he would have been in pretty good shape part way through the contracts
2) Signing Tavares at 11M - I and lots of people liked this at the time. If this couldn't have happened because Mitch + Matthews were on 8year deals, oh well then.

Dubas is young and has shown improvement over the years. We've liked lots of his recent signings and trades. We've been investing in him and it may be foolish to dump him now. It is as much or more fault on Shanny/ownership to hire a young guy that will make mistakes than it is on the young guy.

If Dubas wants to improve on #5/6 above and has a reasonable plan on how to do it, I'd gladly keep him.

Dubas just said in the presser that he doesn't regret paying the core 4 so much instead of spreading around the money because he believes they held their end of the bargain and played well. So, we also know that we lost basically because the bottom of the roster did nothing compared to TB's bottom 6 and this guy see's it as a win. What can you say at this point? They are so intent on winning their way and ONLY their way that they are willing to sacrifice everything. Seems very stupid and stubborn to me.
