I reall liked what I saw of Chaput, he looks like he could become an NHL contributor in the next few years. McKenna was the AHL goalie of the month of November (4-1, 1.16 goals against average), so we can havve some hope he and CMac can hold the fort until Bob returns.

Agree on Chaput.

Other teams are employing one or even two goalies I'm not familiar with (or in some cases never even heard of) and are staying afloat or better, so I'd hope you're right.

My confidence level dropped on this season even more last night. Hate to be doom and gloom, but last night might have been the beginning of the end for this season. Unless GMJK has something up his sleeve. If Bob's injury is short term, McIlhinney can hold the fort, but if this is a long term or season ending injury, unless GMJK makes a move for a legit goaltender, this season is over. Merry Christmas from the Jackets. This club just can't catch a break.

agree on Chaput....and McKenna has some NHL experience so not like he's a slouch...i think we'll be fine as long as Bob isn't out significant time...could be just a week or so...we'll know more shortly....

Don't get me wrong, the club isn't going to make the playoffs with a McElhinney-McKenna tandem but it's not like it's been a huge drop from the below-average Bob of this season to McBackup.

I'm fine with that tandem for a couple of weeks.

Going to be an interesting day in Columbus, that's for sure. Chaput played really well up here, I don't know if I expect him back this season unless more injuries occur, but he shows real promise for the future, fits right in with the gritty type of team we have.

Still holding out hope that Bob will be out short-term only but to be honest from what I saw last night, I just have a bad gut feeling about this one being a torn groin or something along those lines. We will find out today, hope I'm wrong.

If it does end up being a long term thing, I don't see Jarmo going forward with McElhinney and McKenna, as promising as they've been at their respective levels. You don't want to get all your offensive talent back and then start having the opposite problem you were having during the first part of the season. In any case, this will be a true test for our defensive corps.

Yes, because Bob's overall performance is so hard to duplicate.

I'm as concerned as everyone else is, but I don't think last night was the beginning of anything. Our problems started the moment the season started. I did the "oh no" like everyone else. We've survived, and even flourished, with backups before.

No cap space and on the hook for another 5+ million with Bob next season? Good luck with that.

Agreed. Even in the short term, the Jackets can't afford for Bob to miss any time. The next five are against the Wild, Pens, Devils, Rangers and Blues. Really tough stretch to be starting goalies who aren't your main guy.

Watching the Springfield-Albany game. Chaput plays like crazy, so much energy. At the end of 2nd he already has recorded a Gordie Howe hat-trick.

Honest here, I saw Chaput play here (CBUS) and liked him... he won't be in the AHL for long... A guy who can score, assist and fight in one game is a guy I want on my team...

Thanks for the update bizzz... keep us informed.
