TORONTO -- McDonald's has begun serving its famed Egg McMuffins, hash browns and other breakfast menu items around the clock in some restaurants in Canada.

The fast-food giant has launched all-day breakfast at 17 restaurants in B.C., Ontario and Quebec.

Most of the locations serving breakfast past 11 a.m. are in Ajax and Whitby, Ont.

The rest are in Mississauga, Ont., Brampton, Ont., the Montreal area, Langley, B.C. and Coquitlam, B.C.

The company is celebrating its 50th anniversary in Canada this year and operates more than 1,400 restaurants throughout the country.

McDonald's launched all-day breakfast in the United States in the fall of 2015, and has since attributed the popularity of the morning food items for an increase in its sales.

Been doing this in the USA for at least a year now. Canada behind the times, like always.
It's only a matter of time for Canadians. Conversely, not everything from Canada ever reaches the U.S.

Poutine at McDonald's? Yes, but only in Canada

Prepare yourself for a strong dose of fast-food envy.

A version of poutine, the Canadian dish of fries smothered in gravy and cheese curds, has arrived at McDonald's locations in Canada. Yes, the same restaurant serving chicken nuggets, the Big Mac and McFlurries is attempting a dish that almost none get right.

Most importantly, cheese curds are cheese curds. The cheese on poutine needs to be in the form of curds, or you can't call it poutine. And it looks like McDonald's got it right, then in true golden arches form, stuck it in a box.

"Rich and tasty gravy? Melty, mouth-watering cheese curds? On our world famous fries? You better believe it! Poutine is here and it's better than ever," writes McDonald's on its Canadian site.

In a photo taken by Twitter user @The_Alex, pale misshapen cheese curds are clearly visible. "There are tears of joy streaking down my face...Thank you @McD_Canada" he tweeted.

"@McD_Canada I indulged today! One word...delicious #best#poutine," wrote Laura Wilson on Twitter.

This isn't the first time McDonald's Canada has tried a new menu item worth a double take. A McLobster roll made the rounds this summer at locations in Ontario. It had Atlantic lobster, celery, dressing and shredded lettuce on a soft roll.

If McDonald's in the U.S. were to make something meant to represent the entire country, it may look a bit like a tortilla stuffed with pizza, a hamburger, carnitas and a wedge salad, topped with Sriracha sauce. We're hoping they think of something better.

10 Canadian chocolate bars you won’t find south of the border
By Jessica Wynne Lockhart

When Hershey’s Chocolate decided to redesign the blueprint for their classic chocolate bars in 2013, it meant creating a recipe explicitly for the discerning Canadian palate. Unlike their American counterparts, the bars are sweeter, smoother, higher in fat content, and have a creamier flavour profile designed specifically for Canadians.

“Americans tend to gravitate towards a little bit more of a grittier or even cheesier flavour,” Hershey’s representative Gina Shroy explained to the National Post.

In 2009, Food Network writer Catherine Jheon hosted a blind (although far from scientific or unbiased) taste test comparing Canadian to American chocolate bars. What she found, by and large, is that her colleagues preferred the Canadian versions, finding the American bars “chalky” and “bland.”

Finding out that American chocolate bars use a different recipe will come as no surprise to Canadians who have purchased their favourite sweet south of the border, only to discover a coarser and waxier texture. But not only do Canadians have their own Canadian-ized versions of chocolate bars found throughout North America, we also have treats that are all our own.

Here are just a few of the chocolate bars that you’ll only find in Canada:

Caramilk

...

Crunchie

...

Coffee Crisp

...

Wunderbar

...

Crispy Crunch

...

Aero

...

Maltesers

...

Mr. Big

...

Glosette

...

Smarties
