He already is the cornerstone.

Teams best player. One of the best American players in the league no doubt about it. You could make the argument he is the best American defenseman

Right now its not too close. Suter>>McD, but one could argue that Mcdonagh and Suter at age 24 are pretty damn close. Will be nice to watch him develop.
I've seen the comparison between the two out there so that can only get exciting for the future for sure

I think you can argue for Mcdonagh > Suter.

There isn't nearly a gap there that many people think.

Rangers fans especially like to downplay how good mcdonagh is for some reason
Ryan McDonagh is my favorite hockey player

If I'm taking McDonagh over Suter it's because of age

Over their careers Suter has been better. I think this year McDonagh has outplayed Suter.

He is a top 10 D-man in the league, I don't care what anyone says. Top 15 in scoring and top 3 (yes, top 3) defensively.

His track record of making rival superstars disappear is staggering.

Ovechkin who been scoring at close to a GPG pace since the start of last season hasn't tallied against the Rangers in 9 games. He doesn't even have a point in his last 8.

Sidney Crosby -you're gonna love this one- hasn't scored a goal against the Rangers since McDonagh joined the Rangers. Seriously.

Holy moly...

:yo:

I was hoping he could finally show everyone how ****ing amazing he is at the Olympics, but he's probably going to be stuck with some trash partner there too (not actually trash, just not... very good defensively)

that's, that's actually incredible...

Really impressive. Hopefully that continues Wednesday.

It's quite a feat.

Now I'd be remiss to just give McDonagh all the credit. We've held Crosby out of the G column for almost four calender years. For a streak like that credit has to go to Marc Staal, Dan Girardi, the rest of the D, and Henrik Lundqvist as well.

But for the last 3 seasons the top guys on the other team have been McDonagh's assignments consistently, and the stats don't lie: the goal production of the top players in the NHL against the Rangers has clearly trended downward since around the time McDonagh broke in.

I know we can't live in fantasy land, but I think we can all agree that our D would have been unreal with McDonagh along with Sauer and pre-injuries Staal. Will always feel bad for Sauer. Staal looks like a different player, too. A shame for those two guys, especially with both being so young.

Yeah, but McD really needs to -- keep -- building on his passing game though, because as is its not very creative at all.
