McDavid is on a serious run to try and break Gretzky's single season playoff assist record (he did it)

With his slow down in the Final and the Oilers possibly having just one game left the Gretzky assist record could stand for this year at least
Well he did get 2 more assists tonight.. need 2 more to tie the record, 3 more to break it I think..
Likely has just 1 game to do it.

Sorry about mistake, look at Crosby's ESPN history quick-like after realizing I sold Crosby so short in original posting. I'm no expert where to find good sports stats, just throw stuff together from ESPN's team, roster, player, and stats pages. Thanks for correction and makes Crosby even that more impressive. Both Crosby and Kucherov are and have been something special come playoff time.

Edit: Oh yeah, after chewing of both Oilers & Ave's having 3 players each within top 20 ppg scoring averages all-time list. Kinda sells the point of Ave's and Oilers players not facing same amount of "Cup" contenders, that Kucherov & Crosby have during many deep playoff runs. Kinda tough scoring in conference and final series, and when any player does it, but still remains in top 20. That matters....

Hes making it a big 3

Howe and Orr will be left behind for all time player listings 20 years frok now.

Mcdavid, Gretzky, Lemieux will be the names remembered 20-30 years from now

3 best humans to play the sport of ice hockey

Twenty years goes by in a blink.

All five will be heavily debated against each other for years to come with Gretzky perched on top.

Kareem, Wilt, and Russell still frequently make the top 5 in the NBA, and the latter two were born just 6-8 years after Gordie Howe. Babe Ruth retains his stature and he played his final game when Howe was 7 years old. Ty Cobb is frequently listed as top 5 and he hasn’t played in nearly a hundred years.

Besides, Lemieux is the most vulnerable one inside the top 4. Gretzky, Lemieux, and McDavid may be our three favorites, but Orr and Howe are inside the top 5 and will be debated in any position without a new threat for at least another forty years.

That is true for full hockey fans and on here on hf

But for casual and mainstream media it will be 99, 66, and 97

Wilt and Russell are also forgotten and not ranked as highly in NBA debates now vs 90s

That’s an amazing accomplishment. Hard to believe really
With anyone else Id agree

Mcdavid is the only player alive who can beat Gretzkys non era influenced records outside of OV for the goal record

Mcdavid wont put 90+ goals or 200+ pts but playoff records he can definately beat

He could if everything goes right have a 50 game pt streak in reg season

he should get the Conn Smythe at this point too
If the Oilers push to 6 or 7 (and he picks up some points along the way) I think he'll get it over Bob even if Florida wins the cup. Bobrovsky gets it if the Panthers win game 5 tho.

What has 66 done to put himself so far ahead of 4 and 9, besides the unique number?

9 has double the MVPs and 4 is the dman GOAT with numbers as untouchable as 99.

66 lives in 99s shadow, while 9 and 4 do not. Bad timing by 66, but it is what it is.

199 pts (basically 200 with 6 missed games)

Has 6 rosses in 11 healthy years playing at same time as Prime Gretzky for half of those years

You put 99, 66, and 97 in the nhl as 18 year olds starting 2024

The next 20 years lemieux is winning 6/7 ross/hart/lindsays in that span

Howe and Orr I dont think could compete with 99 and 66 & 97 now head to head

Best peak player ever, only injuries held him back, Healthy 6'6 Mario was the most unstoppable player ever.
