He's got 28 points in his last 14 games.

More impressive is 11 goals in those 14 games. That shows me his 60-ish goal scoring level is coming back after being gone last year due to injury.

Probably but it's not as cut-and-dried as it used to be. I'd have to think it over if I was offered McDavid or MacKinnon. That was unthinkable a couple of years ago.

Outside of that one stacked year where MacKinnon had a loaded roster around him, look at the results the last two seasons with more normalized/comparable rosters.

The Avs lose to a Seattle team in round 1, Seattle being maybe one of the worst teams to make the playoffs recently, and beaten easily in round 2 last year by a Dallas team that McDavid and co. dispatched in 6 without too much fuss.

The Oilers according to Marchessault gave the Knights their best competetion in the 2023 playoffs and then came within 2 goals of winning the Cup last year.

McDavid is better, his team results are better when given more comparable levels of talent to work with.

Yeah, it's hard to argue. Meh, you're probably right.

That blue chunk of toilet paper loosely shaped like a leaf in the OP's avatar tells me all I need to know about this thread...

He's the 3rd greatest player behind Lemieux and Gretzky. Didn't see ORR, but since the late 70's those are the top three.

An incredible player and I’ll be the first to admit it.

However, since his 2022-23 form, he has notably declined and has had multiple players enter his tier (Nate, Kucherov).

Both are out scoring him the last 2 years. He clearly has some type of nagging injury or something going on. Still probably the best player in the league, but no longer the consensus best player.

Yes he has lol. That’s probably his peak. Players regress with age. You don’t agree with this?
I don’t agree that a player who just broke a Gretzky playoff record has notably regressed. No.

He will regress with age but the the just mentioned is peek player preformance

No, not at all.

While MacKinnon and Kucherov (and one or two others) are certainly up there near Connor and can be the most "valuable" player in a peak season, McDavid remains the best player in the world.

Also, his overall play this season so far has been considerably better than any point last season. Last year, he never looked like himself, to me, including in the playoffs. He couldn't shoot the puck all year and was mishandling it a disturbingly high number of times. And he put up 100+ assists and then won the Conn Smythe.

He has looked healthy this year (after a minor injury re-set), is shooting the puck again, is scoring goals again, and also seems to be having fun again (there was a recent game where he said -- very unMcDavid-like -- that it was the kind of game where you never want to get off the ice.)

NHL scoring since Nov. 9th by PPG:
2.00 -- McDavid
1.70 -- Point (only 10 GP)
1.56 -- Rantanen
1.54 -- Marner
1.50 -- Kucherov

Barring injury, I expect McDavid to win the scoring title this season. Just wait and see...

AHAHAHA @Jordan Belfort has been sitting behind his computer screen, grinding his teeth, pulling out his hair, biting his nails, for two years, just waiting for the day, after failing so terribly before, to dunk on McDavid.

And wait...what's this? Is it...could it be...has it finally....?

And no. He fails miserably once again. Back to the dusty confines of his parent's basement to await the day when McDavid finally ages out and he can finally revel in the piss yellow light of his bitterness.

I also picture a wife beater with orange Cheezies stains all over it.

mackinnon has regressed because he’s unlikely to put up 140 ever again

Kucherov has regressed because he’s unlikely to put up 144

Matthews has regressed because he’s unlikely to put up 69 goals again

Pasternak is washed because he’s likely never scoring 60 or 113 ever again.

You’re not really saying anything at all worth of value here
