I'd match. Only player in the league that I'd consider paying that much.

As EDM would and should. Could you imagine the riots if they actually let him get taken through an offer sheet? I'm sure really any team would gladly pay the 4 1st as well.

Buffalo with Eichel more likely with him and Reinhart do a Kane and Toews. I can see them getting a 5 yr contract taking them to the end of ROR/Okposo contracts then they get 6-8 yr contracts.

For Eichel it depends on his production. I could see a 6*6.5 extension if he has 60 or less points and signs a year early. That's in line with what other first overall types have gotten.

If McDavid is prioritizing money, he'll sign a 4 year contract to take him right to UFA status. If he signs 8 years, I would guess 8 years 97M. If the cap goes up to 75M by the time the extension kicks in, the equivalent to Crosby's 8.7 under a 56.7M cap would be about 11.5M. Remember, that was on only a 5 year term.

McDavid has the leverage of offer sheets. He is the one player easily worth four first round picks. Obviously, Edmonton would match, but offer sheets are motivation to get a deal done for Edmonton. At a 75M cap, they'd be risking a crazy GM offering McDavid max which would be 15. Obviously EDM matches, but that is the reason why it might make sense for EDM to lock him down July 1st of next year one year early, even if it means a 10-12 million AAV.

I think the 9.7x8 could be very realistic when the time comes. I'm not sure he's superstitious with numbers like Crosby, but I do know that he's good friends with Tavares and developed a friendship last year with Stamkos - two guys who were willing to leave money on the table to benefit their team's cap/competitiveness.

McDavid is a different breed than most NHLers. He'll want something fair (which 9.7 per is), but I don't think he'll take management to the cleaners. He wants to win. Taking 9.7 is probably leaving 1 mil on the table. Just my opinion, but I think he's that type.

Over 8 years that's a lot of money being left on the table.

I think McDavid will be very good this year, but I don't think he's going to be the best in the league. If he signs in July 2017, I think it'll be in the 8x8 ballpark.

I really have no idea on Eichel. If he puts up another 60 point season, I'd expect him to hold off until after the 17-18 season to sign his new deal. If he puts up 70+, I'd say $7x8.

McDavid won't be giving up 3 UFA years for a $8M AAV. His RFA years are worth $8M atleast.

McD will be offer sheeted, will pick the team he wants to play for and there's nothing the Oilers can do about it.

With all the losing and FO the Oilers will be in cap he'll shortly while at this moment, that isn't even a playoff team.

Max sheet and the Oilers blow up what little they have to keep McD, or, keep a decent team and take more picks.

I see McD as the type of person who will just tell the Oilers to let him leave and follow his dream of being a champion and enjoy the time they had him.

We'll see how this season goes. If he's ppg and in the running for the Art Ross, no he absolutely shouldn't sign for that. I just have a feeling he won't be quite there yet, and the Oilers might get him locked up right before he is.

Don't get me wrong, I hope he signs for $12m/yr. I just have this feeling the Oilers are going to get him on a steal of a contract.

If McDavid is smart he signs for the quickest ticket to UFA status.

To be fair, McDavid will probably make just as much in endorsements as he will from his actual contracts over the years. Being Canadian born star in a Canadian market helps that as well.

He's gonna get paid by Edmonton tho, one way or the other.

What's the point of this post? The McDavid you are describing is the exact opposite of real life McDavid.

I, like everyone else, hope that McDavid will bolt to my team. But, I'm not stupid enough to think it'll happen. He's going to stay in Edmonton.

Anyway, I say McDavid signs 4x10, then he signs a monster deal when he has all the leverage.

As for Eichel, it depends on how he does next year.

I'd pay McDavid whatever he wants.

Of course I'm hoping he'll leave some money on the table for building the team around him but even if not he's well worth the money.

No, they won't.
Havok is correct,cDavid isn't selling low on UFA years.
He'll get 12+ a year for sure

Other teams can't offersheet McJesus if he signs NEXT offseason (he's RFA in 2 years).

Anyhow, I wasn't a believer in McDavid until I saw him play in the NHL. He's not getting less than $10M/yr on a long-term deal.

On his next deal? I'd be absolutely shocked if McDavid became the highest paid player by $1.5m while still an RFA.

If he plays a full season with the same PPG rate (top-3 in the league) as his rookie season - he will be top-5 highest paid... if not highest paid.

Top 5 puts him at $9.5, which is a lot different than $12+. I doubt highest paid. All the highest paid signed UFA deals. I just don't see an RFA getting that spot.

Where do you come up with this stuff? Honestly curious? This is so much further from fact I'm actually baffled. Good job.
