Bouchard did the exact same thing to Pettersson that Garland did to McDavid. Same play. Difference is Petey didn’t react.

How is Garland wrestling him being used to justify anything when McDavid tackles and pins him to the ice, then punches him the back of the head right before that?

It is done every single game that he plays to a degree. When you have the level of reffing that was in this game it basically says that it's a free for all and that McDavid is fair game and nothing will get called. Garland neutralized the biggest threat on the ice with multiple illegal tactics with the game's outcome hanging on the line and the refs allowed those antics to dictate the outcome of the game. What McDavid did was wrong, but it sure would be nice if the refs also got their asses handed to them over allowing Garland to get away with that when the game is on the line.

A favorite has been Oilers fans insinuating that McDavid is both weak and Garland is the hulk.

1. Bouchard should have been called for holding on Pettersson and none of the other events would have happened
2. Garland stick checks McDavid and McDavid then hits Garland to the ice to retain Oiler possesion. They both cuddle with Garland holding McDavids arm until McDavid doesn't want to cuddle anymore as the Bouchard opportunity ends - McDavid was on top and pretty happy about it for a long while there
3. McDavid punches Garland in the head in an attempt to shake lose, Garland retaliates by "manhandling" him again.. Bruha hulk smash haul you down
4. Cross check in the face of both Garland and Bouchard happens. Suspensions.

I'm sorry, I missed the part where McDavid was holding Garland's leg with both of his legs and then grabbing and holding him down. Garland could've been called for holding or interference 3 different times in that sequence.

The NHL refuses to call their own rulebook and then is shocked when players take matters into their own hands.

The only way inferior teams like Vancouver can contain players like McDavid, MacKinnon, etc. is to hook, grab and interfere at every opportunity. Unfortunately, the NHL generally looks the other way.

McDavid has justifiably had enough. It's been open season on him, an since the referees/league aren't doing their job, the players know they have to police themselves. My point was that people can say a million different things about incidents and at the end of the day it will be up to the morons at the DOPS to decide what happens for an incident that would've never happened had the refs done their jobs. I agree that crosschecking someone to the head/face is wrong but sometimes people lose their shit and this is tame compared to what Soucy and Zadorov did to McDavid last season.

No it really isn’t. This was McDavid cross checking someone in the head out of anger.

Soucy cross checked McDavid in the head without intent and without knowing that Zadorov was going to cross check him.

These are not similar incidents.

Really? It is a pretty blatant penalty. It isn't suspension worthy like some of his other high sticks, but it certainly is worth a minor.

That is a 2 minute penalty for embellishment.
