Your "analogy" wasn't worth a serious reply.
If you are saying your response wasn't serious and you were just kidding when you clearly revealed you don't know what an analogy is then... I guess I missed the joke. You surely missed the point I made with that post: One can be justifiably angry, but that anger doesn't justify retribution (which is what you keep defending by saying you have no problem with someone crosschecking a player in the back of the head).

Garland can be upset Bouchard didn't get called for holding. That is justified. It doesn't justify holding McDavid.

McDavid can be justifiably upset he was taken out of a play by an illegal hold. Doesn't justify him crosschecking someone in the head facing away from him.

I can be justifiably upset at someone keying my car. But any escalation, i.e. assault, murder, attacking their family, whatever you want here. Is not justified. Even keying their car isn't justified even if its equivalent. This is just basic ethics. If you hold that an act is wrong when done to you, to the extent it makes you angry, committing it yourself is wrong.

Deliberately crosschecking or aiming at someone's head is wrong. If you want to see more of that, then you'd better not have any issues if McDavid is out with a concussion long term because of a dirty play. That'd just be a hockey play too.

Oh I'm fine with the suspension, but do I think he was wrong to do it? Hell no. If he doesn't do what he did, players will see that weakness as a green light to f*** with him. Sometimes a little suspension is worth it.
Alright, are you ok with someone dropping the mitts and making McDiver answer the bell next time the two teams play?

I welcome what McDavid did and I’m sure Garland does also. He just showed the entire league how to get the biggest threat on the ice to commit a 5 minute major / suspendable infraction.

He did just gave the entire league a green light to f*** with him.

As if they haven't been f***ing with him his entire career. McDavid has more patience than probably anyone else in the league. It actually hurts the league more to suspend him, so don't expect it to happen very often.

Answer the bell for what? This isn't the 80s anymore; that stuff doesn't happen. The NHL has told players that their refs are supposed to police the game, not the players. Instances like what happened here are the direct result of the refs NOT policing the game properly.

The NHL took away players recourse to make someone "answer the bell" because they wanted that out the game, so when the refs don't do their jobs, the players resort to crosschecks to the face, spears, slew footing, all manner of dirty plays when they see the refs are not protecting them.

Garlands tactics are as bush league as it comes, but since the NHL won't let someone go slap the shit out of him anymore, like what used to happen, players are resorting to these types of retaliatory actions.

If Garland gets a penalty for holding/interference/dry-humping or any number of things that took place there for a full 12 seconds, that crosscheck to the face never happens. The NHL created this and is now blaming the players for the resulting actions.

He will get a game for a heat of the moment reaction but Myers might get 2 or 3 and as a Canucks fan and hockey fan I'm fine with that.

Not to a significant level that would impact the NHL.
More significant than any other player. He's the face of NHL along with the other big boys like Matthews, Mackinnon etc. Say didn't Matthews get suspended? Hasn't seemed to hurt his career or image. So I guess all the obsessing about McDavid being "dirty" is for nothing. He'll take his 1-2 game suspension and keep on trucking. And you'll probably type another 300 posts about him in the meantime 😆

It also didn’t hurt the NHL when he was suspended. 700+ active NHL players, losing a single player isn’t going to have any significant financial impact on the overall NHL.

700 active players, can't think of a single one more popular than McDavid. He's the most important commodity. The league will go easy on him because of who he is. Must grind your gears eh.

The most important commodity in the NHL is expansion in the south, not a single player.

slippery slope when you're allowing players to hold each-other for that long at a crucial moment in the game.

It's unfortunate that it happened, but it was an effective way to eliminate McDavid from the play. Will be interesting to see what comes of it if it catches on; I imagine defenders hauling down the opposing team at the end of a game might look bad.
