im pretty sure given the time between mcdavids last fine and suspension he isn't considered a repeat offender, not that matters to people like you.

I mean he should have likely been suspended 2 games ago. Got the benefit of the doubt there and he proved the league wrong by making another dirty play 2 games later.

Likely if they suspended him for concussing a player with an elbow he's unable to do this.

Okay, enoughs enough. Stop attacking fellow posters. That is Flaming per board rules. You can disagree with the opinion all you want. Second, anymore wishes of injury to Garland, Myers, Bouchard, McDavid, the refs, etc, will be met with a warning and thread ban.

The Sternum is not above the shoulders, which the NHL uses to deem a play high sticking.
I mean you make it sound like he just hits Hronek in the middle of his chest (still spearing), it was really at the base of the neck (just above the sternum).

Point me to the line in the crosscheck rule that says that suspensions are about whether you had a right to be mad. (I'll give you a hint to help your search... Rule 59 ONLY says that the level of punishment is based on the severity of the contact and further whether there is intent to injure or not). If you want to go full beer league rules you can, but thats not the rules of the NHL, thats just how it works in your own head.

I fully believe McDavid will get a smaller suspension and they will make some excuse for it because its McDavid. Not because a part of the cross-checking rule is that if you had an obvious reason to be mad then its OK. Someone shoved you? Thats a justified crosscheck to the face as opposed to an unjustified one, right? There are no justified crosschecks to the face.
Cross checks to side of the heads don't even get called in playoffs...see Weber on plenty of Oilers.
Garland had a right to swing his stick back at McDavid if refs ignored McDavids crosscheck. Refs not doing their job made McDavid take matters in his own hands.
He will be fine with a suspension.

sure and he deserves it, unlike the wild one, which he rightly wasn't suspended or fined for and is irrelevant to this play.

It's not irrelevant. The league gave him the benefit of the doubt. He immediately does something dirty after. If not for that play, he may get the benefit of the doubt this play.

It's like if you catch a guy doing something illegal, assume he probably didn't know any better and let him go and immediately catching him doing something illegal again. The first incidence plays a factor. He's now lost the benefit of the doubt that may have been awarded to him earlier. It's not irrelevant.

so it was a highstick until someone rightly corrected you, and now its a spear? despite mcdavid clearly lifting his stick over another stick?

Spearing? really?

McDavid's stick was stationary, and made contact as Hornek closed in on McDavid. For spearing or slashing a player needs to jab or swing a stick. McDavid did neither, but keep grasping at straws...

The justification for McDavid to crosscheck Garland because he was being held is laughable.

A lot of Oil fans were crying bloody murder over the Soucy incident last year, but yet this play tonight is a nothing burger apparently. Hypocrisy much?
It isn't justification exactly. I think there are only a few who are actually suggesting McDavid should be given any leeway because he was being held. It does possibly explain why it irked McDavid to the point of anger though. That doesn't absolve him from punishment though.

omg, he ran him over? the horror! so Garland can't take a hit? poor little guy
Garland should be lauded for his end game heroics. He nullified the greatest player in the game for the last 10 seconds or so and got away with it. Even if the refs had called a penalty on him he still takes McD out of the play for maybe 5 seconds and Oilers get a whopping 5 second pp.
