Does Latvia deserve a place in the QF? Undoubtedly. Does Latvia deserve it more than Finland? Undoubtedly. Belarus? Probably. Will Latvia get there? This game will show.

It would be naive to expect that Swiss will give away this game just because they have no chance of getting to the QFs. To be fair, this seems as a very unlikely win for us. It should be a very chaotic game from our side, as it certainly won't be easy to play organised hockey after what they went through yesterday. At least Girgs is returning.

Luckily, I won't have the chance to see it.

All I'm currently waiting for is a notable player (doesn't matter, whether on Team Latvia, Czech Republic or any other) that would announce his retirement from World Championships until certain changes are made on how this beer league tournament is organised. It's more than cynical that IIHF doesn't feel the need to respond in any way apart from sending out "condolences" to the teams that have been butthurt by "world-class" referees.

Vinneborg. :D Alright, so I guess another very arguable penalty shot at 56 minute mark is in the pipeline.

As Swiss I have to root anyway for Switzerland and unfortunately the Finns need the Swiss help, though Latvia would deserve the quarterfinal spot too.

I only wonder a little bit that they nominate a referee from Finland for this game. I thought they don't chose a referee from a country that can reach the quarterfinal only if like in this case Switzerland wins the game.

But ok, I don't think that the referee will disadvantage Latvia.

Finish nicely guys ! a win is a win, even if it is useless.

Remember Sochi ! fight your heart and get those 3 points.

Simpson's last game as a coach for Switzerland. They want to make it memorable for him (for what i've understood he is very liked guy). Wont be easy for Latvia.

Go Latvia, you can do it!

As much as I hate to say this, you guys deserve it more than we do. We'll get a new chance next year, so I'm just hoping that the Latvian team makes their country proud. It would be great to see them in the playoffs. We would get our ***** kicked anyway, so why not cheering this time for Latvia, although I'm Finnish.

Wouldn't be disappointed with any of the possible outcomes though. Win-win, I'd like to say, whatever happens.

It's really harash when you have to wish to some other country do the job for us, when our crappy team couldn't.. But I can only follow my heart and it hopes Switzerland to win it "for us". We don't really deserve but deserving isn't a factor in tournaments.. Like history has painfully taught me.

If Swiss doesn't win, It's not end of the World. The team with most points will actually deserve to be in QF, I don't think there is other ways to deserve it better.

I except horrible game: Rönn is one of the worst refs from Finland and Vinneborg might be one of the Worst from Sweden, at least he has been bad many times... Where is Levonen from these IIHF games? Is he too good for this?

A win would be nice, but it's hard to care for this bush league tournament after the most recent antics...

And it seems as it is also the last international game for Mathias Seger. Rumours are spreading that he'll retire. He deserves everything and the team will fight to give him a win.

May the best team win. :)
I know I'm going off topic here and don't want to start a **** storm like the Latvia - Belarus game thread. But, what does the IIHF rules say about offcide in the crease? Is it when the shot is made or does the player have to enter the crease after the puck? Just curious.

I think IIHF own rules thay should whistle the game off every time crease is violated but usually they don't bother to. Cant score a goal if game is whistled off.

I think goal can be waved off due to "goalie interference" if the game wasn't whistled off due to crease violation.

Also when the puck is there, you can play the rebound from the paint. It's really one of the unclearest rules.

You're saying that if the player enters the crease without the puck or without the puck being in the crease, play should be stoped? A bit hard if not impossible to be able to stop play before the puck goes in net if the transgression is made just prior to the goal being scored.

If we win this game I might be slightly more upset about the two idiotic linesmen in our game against the US.

It truly is ridicolous. Someone should make a compilation of how many goals have been counted in this tournament when similar plays have happened.
