I can't really make a guess..
Obviously rooting for Germany, but they have a habit of not beating the teams that are on the same level.. But i'll be optimistic and say 3-2 germany.

Rieder, Schütz and Pietta with the goals, and Draisaitl with some nice plays.

The Kazakh team is a bit of a mystery to me. On paper their roster is really solid and there's not that big of a difference between Germany (with almost their B line-up) and Kazakhstan (A line-up, 7 naturalized players).

But when it comes down to it, they just look uninspired, lose all or most of their games and always drop down to DivisionIA.

I saw a couple of their exhibition games and they just looked like a bunch of U-18 junior players even though most of them played in the KHL this season and played good.

If the games were played on paper, on a good day they could defeat anyone outside of the top3 in the group.

So I'm eager to see at what state their team is this year.

Draisaitl on the fourth line and Rieder as 13th forward..

I think they just screwed up the lineup. Weiß is the 13th forward, Rieder is on the RW next to Draisaitl. Wasn't the only mistake, Oppenheimer was listed as C on his line, even though he is the RW.

Germany looks pretty much in control of the game. Not a whole lot of big chances, but definately more on offense than Kazakhstan. The 0-1 came out of nowhere really. Kazakhstan has the edge when it comes to physical play though.

Yeah, Rieder got regular icetime and even played on pp. Draisaitl with assist and drawn penalty with limited icetime :handclap:

I just started watching. First of all, I'm really happy to see Talgat Zhailauov back. After the news he had a concussion (being dropped on his head by his own fans) I didn't hear anything but his missed Barys' whole play-off run.

Making a prediction: Schütz with the 2:1. Go Germany!

The guy who just jumped across the fence to get to the puck moved faster than most of the players on the German team.

Germany looked worse than in the first, apart from that short stretch near the end. Not nearly physical enough, not quick enough, lack of puck-control and rarely attacking the net. They need to do a whole lot better than that in the third. This game is a must win game, in regulation, not just to have a chance at the quarterfinals, but also not to end up with an ugly surprise in the end if things shouldn't go well.

Wow, I just saw that only 3 out of 23 Kazakh players do not play in the KHL!

Kind of impressing that they are an elevator team (even though they're not top KHL-players)

Oppenheimer with the GWG. :handclap:

Let's be positive. Germany has more points than Canada right now. :D

At least they won the shootout, still a setback, this should have been three points. You cannot afford to leave any points behind when you face so much direct competition.

I was pleasantly surprised by Oppenheimer, Plachta and Akdag. Can't say Germany deserve three points today, especially with Kazakhstan's solid goaltending and defense. Not to mention our horrid efficiency on converting chances. Not like that's unfamiliar, though.

Good result for Germanys development team against Barys Astana.

Germany needs to start playing a more physical game in order to beat Dinamo Riga tomorrow.
