I guess Canada's defense might have more to be desired but I guess the stacked offense overshadows it.

What did Canada's D look like last year?

Coburn-Myers
Garrison-Bieksa
Ellis-Gudbranson
Rielly

This year the D-corp is better, but not significantly. It depends on how well Ekblad and Barrie adapt to big ice. If I'm not mistaken, this is Barrie's first time ever playing on big ice. It could be an adventure out there. Hamhuis and Burns is a good 1st pairing, as good as any other. If in fact they are a pairing.

Our defense is much, much more mobile than last year, those top 4 from 2014 are not fleet of foot, nor are they particularly heady type players. The person I trust the most with player evaluations say that Wiercoch and Muzzin are both very good players.

And good luck to Latvia, always the best fans in the tourney! One day I hope to party with Latvia fans at this event with my brother!

I would say they are very good players as well, but young and inexperienced on big ice. Questions remain until they prove they can perform on big ice.

I attended the 2006 WHC in Latvia. I'd say that should be on every hockey fan's bucket list.

Just posted this in the Team Canada thread, but just sharing here as well...

To no one's surprise, Crosby's been named Captain:

This team is gonna dominate from the start. That defence will move the puck very well and I think once they get chemistry, it'll be a very, very strong and dangerous group. Up front it's just breath-taking. Any line is able to dominate the opponents players. Can't wait.

Well, and I say this with all due respect, you're such a Hockey Canada suck up, HC could add a couple of 12 year old street hockey players from your neighborhood and you'd still give the thumbs up with your typical "everything is going to be awesome" routine.

I doubt it is going to be as awesome as you think.

In all fairness, you're the exact opposite. They can pretty much do no right by you.

I think they put together a pretty good team, which isn't easy at this comp. I don't think they will dominate games, but they have all the tools to win. It'll all depend on coaching and adjusting to the big ice.

They haven't done much right other than the Olympics and 2 junior tournaments the past 5 years. That's a pretty lousy record that's hard to defend and deserves to be criticized on some levels. I admit, this tournament has its challenges, but HC does little to help itself in overcoming the challenges. When we get back to the record that looks something like the record we had from 2002-09...then I'll stop complaining.

But, I'm hoping for the best.

Surprised to see Indrasis on the roster. I read in another thread that he was injured recently. Can he play? Also no Karsums, Kulda or Bartulis. Tough for Latvia. :(

Up front...it's incredible. But we couldn't do better on D and on goal? Did Giordano skated already or he still hasn't even put the skates yet? Luongo would have been nice.....but I guess he refused. Rielly on big ice would have been neat. Why no Pietrangelo?

Can't speak to the others, but I imagine that if Giordano could skate he'd have an eye to Calgary's playoff run over the World Championship.
