We have:
1) a rookie head coach with two new assistant coach
2) two terrible goaltenders
3) only 2 guys on the roster who have played any significant center in the NHL (Rask and Staal)
4) potentially 4 rookies (Necas, Svechnikov, Zykov + Wallmark/Foegele) in the starting line-up.
I don't know what to expect right now, but I do know that trading for a rental is not the right approach for the team where it stands right now. I do know that they don't have a better roster that WSH, PIT, PHI, BOS, TBL, TOR and probably FLA. So they would be battling NJ, CLB, and any other surprise team for 1 playoff spot.
It's possible, but not likely, even with a better goalie. Of course, a lot depends on how well all the new guys mesh (both offense and defense), how the rookies perform, and nobody getting injured.
Either way, trading for Patches isn't the right move.
