Jake Debrusk is a third/fourth line tweener who gets opportunity due to his draft position, he does fit well within the bruins system (or did I guess) which helped him imo

DeBrusk averaged 25 goals per 82 games until last year. 3rd/4th line tweener? lol

edit: You are a Canes fan?

Svechnikov had 59 goals in his first 205 games. DeBrusk had 62 in his first 203. DeBrusk had a bad year during the pandemic. Totally. Bad bad bad. But come on.

Maybe I was a little harsh, also not a canes fan

Max Domi is much better. He just isn't played at the position he's best at. Wish Edmonton could pick him up. He's fit well on our wing.

I can understand why people are voting Domi, but for me, on my team...i'd take DeBrusk between the two, pretty easily.

The way i see it, DeBrusk (brutal season aside), is effectively a ~20G - 40ish Pt Winger, who can bring a lot of hustle and energy, along with decent size. He's got the makings of a solid complementary winger who can slide up and down your Top-9. Even if the raw skill just isn't there for a particularly high "absolute ceiling", or true line-driving impact.

Whereas Domi may have the slightly higher "ceiling" offensively in a situation where he's given the opportunity to really run free. But for the most part, in a comparable role he's effectively a ~10-15G - 45ish Pt Winger who wants to play Center. It makes him one of those kind of "awkward fit" guys for me. In that, i think he's better suited to playing up the lineup in a prime offensive role as more of a "play driver" and "focal point" of a line, and probably playing center to boot. That's where you get "the most" out of him and where his contributions really make sense. But he's not quite good enough to actually satisfactorily and reliably fill that role on a strong team as a "key player".

So in terms of slotting in as that "Complementary Top-9 Winger"...the points are close enough to a wash in that role, i prefer what DeBrusk brings to the table as an all-around package. Between the more goal-scoring skewed production, and the ability to make an impact outside the score sheet. The hits, energy, hustle, and even ability to maybe kill the odd penalty, are more desirable in that role for me, than maybe eeking another half dozen assists out of the season. Which just becomes even more true, the further you push the two down the lineup.

In short: Domi might be the "better" Top-6 Center in a vacuum. But when he's not actually good enough in that role, it's kind of a moot point. Where DeBrusk is the "better" player, and the one i'd prefer in the role that i'd actually hope to have either of them play on a strong, competitive team.

Excellent post and enough to make me want to change my vote. Problem with DeBrusk this season is that he wasn't doing these off the puck things very well.

I don’t pay too much attention to the Bruins inner workings so help me out here? Isn’t DeBrusk having issues with the coach? I think I saw some sort of headline like that. What’s the deal there? Or it’s possible that came to me in a dream.

generally when I hear the names of any of those Bruin picks from 2015 I just shake my head and move on.

Cassidy took off the kid gloves and started calling him out in the media at the end of the season and there are rumblings that didn't go over.

Hustle and energy are the last 2 words I'd ever choose to describe DeBrusk's play.

The kid is allergic to effort, skating or engaging in a single puck battle
