Selanne 1997-1998 saw him do this without Kariya for much of the year so him over Bondra by a little

Agree with Selanne in ‘98 doing it with Kariya missing a good chunk of the year and little else to play with. Also played the fewest games despite having the same/more goals that the others

As a side note it’s so strange that Selanne’s ES numbers fell so much from ‘98 to ‘99 but his PP numbers skyrocketed as the team’s PP nearly doubled in efficiency

I would make the argument that Selanne scored 52 Goals in 97-98 because Kariya was injured. Kariya scored 17 Goals in the 22 games he played that season which is close to a 64 goal pace. Whereas Bondra was the only goal scorer Washington had for nearly his entire career and would regularly have 30+ more goals over his next closest teammate.

Of course. But it was still a bigger challenge with NPC linemates, just with Kariya their roles were different for mutual benefit which resulted in somewhat lower individual goal scoring.
