It was a viscous cross check, no doubt. No room in the game for that regardless of whatever precedent some believe is the " norm".

I think some of you really need to understand how precedent is being used here. It’s not being brought up to excuse the play at all; most here seem to agree that it should be a suspendible play we don’t want in our game. In a fair league however, precedent absolutely matters and should inform decisions on the discipline handed out. That doesn’t mean anyone thinks that play and others like it belong in the league.

At the end of the day, screwed if you keep taking abuse (called weak and uninterested), screwed if you react (inconsistent and disproportionate penalties).

Not even anything to lose either. What's gonna happen, they stop giving us powerplays? How can you go lower than 0.

Light 'em up. Leafs Twitter should have some personality and paste some of these clips too.
Don't be shocked if Matthews leaves at the end of his contract if those 2 are gonna be complete p***yes about it. Stand up for your franchise talent for f*** sakes.

The hit was nasty and under normal circumstances I would have expected 1 game.
Then taking into consideration how the NHL has handled past nastiness and seeing it was a super clean star player and a 1st offense I would have expected a top amount fine.
If it was Boston and Ratboy Marchand then I expect he would write I am sorry 100 times on the chalkboard.

But it is the Leafs and Canada so 2 games is not a surprise.
It probably would have been 3 games but Matthews is American so Bettman cut him some slack.

It's honestly hilarious how the rest of the league operates on a completely different precedent level compared to us for suspensions

We always get f***ed over

How well did mainboards do with guessing suspension length ?

Usually are pretty good

Yup, happened in both Boston series as well. Ridiculous amount of dirty plays by Boston, knee on knee, hitting Freddy in the head when he has a history of concussions, cross-checks, Kadri reacts instantly suspended the entire series.

f***ing ridiculous lol. Opposing teams can abuse us, a penalty is never called. But if we decide to retaliate you better believe we're getting a penalty + suspension.

The way we're playing they'll both be gone in a couple months.
2 games is probably the right decision here despite the wildly fluctuating penalties and inconsistencies of dops discipline in general.

This is revenge for publicly drawing attention to how terrible their officiating was the game before. Surprised they didn't go 3 or 4 games to really drive home their message.

Yeah, I agree. Revenge typically shouldn’t be part of the league or officiating mandate though but here we are.

I guess as Leafs fans all we can do is not spend our money on a product that treats us and our team like a joke.

Hi everyone,

Just heard about the Suspension. I decided to come here as the Main Board is an infraction waiting to happen. I haven’t read through this Thread so my apologies if I’m beating the same drum, but this is f***ing ridiculous.

Players like Tom Wilson, Marcus Foligno and PK Subban commit the same offence repeatedly & get fined. AM battles back hard in the front of the net and gets 2 Games? Yes, it was worthy of discipline, but 2 Games compared to the aforementioned players - f*** that!

DoPS is so inconsistent, it boggles the mind.

Sorry for the rant, but I felt safe it would be ok to express myself here.

ps. f*** off Parros

ok, now I’m done. Time to dish out some Likes for some positivity

It’s only the right decision if they keep ruling the same way from here forward, which I’d be perfectly fine with. I’m not holding my breath though. If they slip back to the way they were ruling the past 2 years prior to this suspension being given out, then it’s the clear outlier and it is inarguable it was excessive by comparison.

its not inconsistent - it always, always goes one way when it comes to the leafs.

it's extremely, extremely consistent when it comes to the leafs.

I think the best way to phrase it is that Parros/DOPS consistently ignores precedent when giving Leaf players suspensions that are disproportionately inconsistent from precedent so that it penalizes his most hated team.

the next one by another team will get 1 game and every will point and say “see?” .. and after that it’ll go back to fines

I expect Dubas and Shanny to speak on their franchise player getting suspended when the precedent should have basically led to a fine.

Unacceptable. The Leafs are the joke of the NHL officiating offices.

I haven't taken my 11-year-old son to a game since he was a wee lad in the Phaneuf era. Got him tickets to Thursday's game for Christmas. Thanks, Parros!
