Based on precedent he shouldn’t unless they actually start the new precedent from here and I hope they do. But if that’s not the case, it’s excessive compared to what his peers got for the same or worse and it’s imo enough ammunition, combined with the excessive 6 game suspension to Spezza (that has definitely not translated to a new precedent) to file a direct complaint with the league over the department of player safety’s practices

well that's incredibly frustrating when guys like Brad Marchand, the most suspended player in the history of the NHL, can in the same play throw an unprovoked straight arm at a goalie and then attempt to skate over and high stick/spear him in the neck / face, and he only gets 6 games. Our first time offender gets 2. Right.

Dude, read the evidence in this thread. This type of cross-check happens all the time, yet it has only drawn a suspension 3 times in the last 4 years. Two out of the 3 were to Kadri and Matthews.

Does that make sense to you?

Clearly he should have given the linesman a 2-hander across the thigh, because that's been deemed non-suspendable.

I don't think the punishment is proportional to how the league has handled similar incidents. But that's the life of a Leaf fan.

What I will say is, within reason - Loving the new heated Auston. He was throwing his weight around out there. He needs to stick up for himself, and at some point he probably needs to pound on one of these guys, just for self-preservation out there.

Should it be? Yes I think that’s how I’d like the league to protect its players

Is it? Based on determinations made by DoPS over the past couple years, unequivocally it’s not.

I would love if he released a video of all the cross checks that were just fines. The only reason this is a suspension is because of the jersey he wears.
